AASU Description

Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), part of the University System of Georgia, was founded in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College to enhance higher educational opportunities in the community. The foundation of the institution, then as now, was a firm commitment to the ideals of a liberal education.

The primary mission of Armstrong Atlantic State University is to foster in its students abilities essential to being knowledgeable, thoughtful, responsible, and creative members of society. For its population of traditional and nontraditional students, Armstrong Atlantic strives to promote academic excellence and provide appropriate access to its programs, including magnet offerings in health professions, teacher education, public history, criminal justice, and transfer programs in engineering studies.

Armstrong Atlantic today serves more than 6,800 students of all ages. Forty-one percent are from Savannah-Chatham County. Others come from throughout Georgia, the nation, and more than 70 countries.
