Dutchess BOCES provides leadership in raising all Dutchess County students' academic performance to a level that meets or exceeds the New York State Standards. This will be done through focusing available resources in new ways that enhance leadership in our schools, promote strategic data driven decision-making, and provide services and programs needed by county schools to fulfill this mission. We continue in our mission of collaborating with other community agencies for the betterment of county residents to meet the educational needs of all citizens.Licensed Practical Nurse I is a one year course approved by the New York State Education Department. This 500 hour program is taught half days over one year. This course is open to high school seniors who have successfully completed Pre-Nursing. This course is available to young men and women who will be taught to function appropriately within various levels of patient care, encompassing supportive, preventative, curative and rehabilitative aspects of different health care settings throughout Dutchess County. The local community hospitals, nursing homes and state hospitals are used for clinical patient experiences. Upon successful completion of the program the Licensed Practical Nurse I student is eligible for entry into the Licensed Practical Nurse II course the following academic year as an adult learner. The adult Licensed Practical Nurse program is eligible for financial aid.
Dutchess County is located in the scenic Hudson Valley just north of New York City. The Hudson Valley is one of the faster growing business and residential areas of the United States and has a population of over two million. An excellent infrastructure of major highways, rail services and nearby Stewart International Airport provides convenience for travel to New York City and other major destinations. Housing remains affordable.
The county enjoys recreational access to the Hudson River and close proximity to several colleges, museums, shopping centers and varied cultural opportunities. The county of 848 square miles boasts a terrain of rolling hills, streams, forests, orchards and thirty miles of Hudson River coastline.
