Description

The mission of Lycoming College is to provide a distinguished baccalaureate education in the liberal arts. This is achieved within a coeducational, supportive, residential setting through programs that develop communication and critical thinking skills; foster self-awareness while increasing receptivity to new concepts and perspectives; explore literary and scientific traditions; cultivate an aesthetic sensibility; elicit social responsibility; promote racial inclusiveness, gender equality, and an appreciation of cultural diversity; and produce leadership for the institutions of society. Each student is encouraged to develop and strengthen virtues and traits of character that enable, ennoble, and emancipate the human spirit while deepening commitment to those values that undergird civilization.

Lycoming is a private, four-year, coeducational, Liberal Arts College. Founded in 1812, it is one of the fifty oldest colleges in the United States. There are 1500 undergraduate students from 28 states and 12 foreign countries that call Lycoming home. 80% of Lycoming's students live on campus and are guaranteed housing all four years.

Although Lycoming College is one of the fifty oldest institutions of higher learning in the United States, it is a community with new vitality, ongoing momentum, and a nationally-recognized commitment to quality education. In the past few years, Lycoming has seen a new Recreation Center built and the restoration of a building that is now called Honors Hall. Also, June of 2006 marked the beginning of the building of a new residence hall.

Lycoming's 35 acre campus sits less than two miles from the Susquehanna River, and is also a five minute drive away from the famous Howard J. Lamade Stadium, which attracts thousands of visitors every year for the Little League World Series. Located in a city of 35,000 people, Lycoming is less than two blocks from downtown Williamsport and is only a short drive from the "Golden Strip" and the Lycoming Mall.
