North Idaho College is located in the midst of the recreational and scenic North Idaho region.Famous for its year-round recreation, quality of life, and scenic beauty, North Idaho is best known for the bustling destination, resort city of Coeur d'Alene. North Idaho College is nestled between forested mountains, an abundance of scenic rivers and lakes, with a recreation wonderland just footsteps away. Biking, hiking, walking, kayaking, canoeing, golf, and playing in the outdoors are just a few of North Idaho's favorite past times.
Founded in 1933, North Idaho College is a comprehensive community college providing a wide array of academic, professional-technical, and workforce training programs.
NIC enrolls approximately 4,650 students in its academic programs and totaled 10,115 course enrollments in various non-credit courses in 2006-07.
The college's 45-acre campus is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene. The college delivers courses to centers in Ponderay, Post Falls, and the Silver Valley, as well as to various sites throughout the five northern counties through the Internet and an extensive network of interactive video classrooms.
NIC offers associate of arts and associate of science degrees in various college transfer programs, and associate of applied science degrees and technical certificates in its professional-technical programs.
Students obtaining an associate of arts or associate of science degree can transfer with junior standing to all other Idaho public colleges and universities.
As one of two community colleges in the state, North Idaho College works closely with its sister colleges and universities. NIC is partnering with the University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, and Idaho State University to enhance the higher education opportunities available in North Idaho.
Coeur d'Alene is the proud host of the annual Ironman race, numerous arts festivals, antique car shows, boat shows, and sailing competitions. It's just minutes away from Silverwood Theme Park, three ski resorts, and numerous state parks and national forests. Downtown Coeur d'Alene is home to numerous art galleries, a monthly artwalk, and a bustling array of upscale restaurants and shops.
