NKU Description

Northern Kentucky University, located in Highland Heights, Kentucky, is a public, co-educational university seven miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. While this University is primarily an undergraduate, liberal arts institution, it does offer several graduate programs.

Students can apply for NKU online through the university’s website. Once students have completed their application, they are required to pay a non-refundable $40 application fee, submit their high school transcript, ACT and/or SAT test scores and may be asked to supply an essay and letters of recommendation.

Students applying for Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Forestry, Pre-Medicine, or any other Biological or Environmental Sciences course need to not only meet the standard admissions requirements, but also the selective program admission standards.

NKU offers a wide variety of on-campus events for students looking to have an active college life. Their Greek system has frequent forms of entertainment, group and organizations have get-togethers and video game competitions, and the Community Connections program sponsors art fairs and Spirit Days.

For those that want to spend some time off campus, Cincinnati, known as one of the “Top Ten Places that Rock” by Esquire and “Best City for Nightlife” by Forbes, has a number of daytime events and nighttime fun.

Detailed Ratings

Overall, I love NKU. I hate the math department- but as I'm a psychology major that's not really a huge concern. I love my professors and their class lessons. My advisor has been very helpful in helping me design a class plan and curriculum that will aid me in getting into grad school. I feel like I've learned a lot, and have experienced much personal growth. The school is great, the people are great. The campus is very pretty in the spring and summer. The most memorable experience, so far, has been sorority recruitment last fall. It was so exciting, and I found my sisters in Theta Phi Alpha. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I am looking forward to three more great years at NKU before applying to grad schools to pursue a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
