Description
At St. John’s College, students receive a truly classical liberal arts education that integrates the study of philosophy, literature, history and the sciences.
St. John’s offers a single degree program in Liberal Arts and a set curriculum, which all students follow.
The curriculum is progressive, with the first year focusing on ancient Greek and Roman history, science, mathematics and literature and the last year focusing on modern history, literature and philosophical texts. In the second and third years, academics focus on the history, philosophy and literature of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and proceeding eras.
The St. John’s approach is also distinctive, as students learn through different methods and means. Students attend small classes and work in one-on-one tutorials with professors.
Students may participate in such college life activities as performing arts groups, clubs and social activities. The stunning city of Santa Fe offers a lot too, in terms of culture, the arts, sightseeing, and outdoor recreation.
St. John’s has selective admissions. Applicants must be willing and able to handle an intensely rigorous curriculum. They must also be skilled in various subject-areas, including math, language arts and science. St. John’s considers an applicant’s high school classes, GPA, recommendation letters and their writing sample. ACT or SAT scores are not required but may be of use in the admissions process.
St. John’s awards such financial aid awards as grants, loans and work-study to students who qualify.
