As the state’s only medical teaching facility, U.S. News Lists UAMS Graduate Schools Among Best in Nation UAMS takes its role in training tomorrow’s physicians and research scientists very seriously. Nearly 80 percent of UAMS’ students remain in Arkansas after graduation, as teachers, as researchers and as medical practitioners. By producing highly trained and motivated medical personnel, the health of Arkansans and future Arkansans is secured with the knowledge that those serving them are among the nation’s top health care professionals. UAMS’ five colleges and its graduate school are responsible for producing skilled specialists in virtually every field of medicine – from nurses to paramedics, from surgeons to pharmacists – and attention is paid to every detail of training in our effort to generate the best and brightest future medical technicians.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is part of the University of Arkansas System. UAMS has 2,538 students in six academic units: the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Related Professions, and Public Health and the Graduate School. UAMS also has more than 733 resident physicians completing their training at UAMS or at one of the eight Area Health Education Centers around the state.

UAMS is one of the largest public employers in the state with about 9,600 employees, including nearly 1,150 physicians who provide medical care to patients at UAMS and its affiliates, Arkansas Children's Hospital and the VA Medical Center.
