Description

As a leading metropolitan university, we achieve our mission at Widener by creating a learning environment where curricula are connected to societal issues through civic engagement. We lead by providing a unique combination of liberal arts and professional education in a challenging, scholarly, and culturally diverse academic community. We engage our students through dynamic teaching, active scholarship, personal attention, and experiential learning. We inspire our students to be citizens of character who demonstrate professional and civic leadership. We contribute to the vitality and well-being of the communities we serve.

Widener is an innovative metropolitan university that combines academic quality with career preparation and a commitment to community service. A Widener education connects curricula to societal issues through civic engagement. Dynamic teaching, active scholarship, personal attention, and experiential learning are key components of the Widener experience.

A comprehensive doctorate-granting university, Widener offers liberal arts and sciences and professional programs leading to associate’s, baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The university’s campuses in Chester, Exton, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, serve some 6,500 students.

Widener’s main campus is located in Chester, 14 miles south of Center City Philadelphia. Most Widener students come from the Philadelphia metropolitan area, and most alumni remain in the region after they graduate. Widener graduates serve the Philadelphia metropolitan area professionally, and they contribute to the social, economic, and civic welfare of the region.

A Widener education means hands-on learning that starts in a student’s very first semester, so that student will know early on if he or she’s chosen the right major. At Widener, reality starts in the classroom with real life assignments. Widener students use the Philadelphia metropolitan area as a learning laboratory. They conduct experiments, research issues, and work on real-life projects related to societal issues in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg metropolitan areas.

Widener offers a combination of quality academic programs, experiential learning, and civic engagement that challenges students both inside and outside of the classroom and prepares them for success in school and in life. Through coaching, mentoring, co-curricular programming, and leadership opportunities in service projects, social activities, and sports, Widener students gain the connections, competence, and confidence to succeed as leaders in their profession and in their communities.
