Description

Nature and the environment are a main area of focus at Dakota College in Bottineau, North Dakota, which offers specialized career programs in environmental fields.

Students at Dakota College may get degrees in currently marketable, in-demand medical fields such as Medical Assisting, Nursing and Caregiver Services.

However, in addition to these programs Dakota College offers a unique cluster of majors that prepare students to work with nature and wildlife.

Forestry, Environmental Technology, Horticulture, Sustainable Vegetable Production and Wildlife are examples of such majors offered at Dakota College. Training future environmental and wildlife professionals, these programs prepare one to work in various capacities in state parks, labs and greenhouses, among other places.

Student life at Dakota also revolves around nature and wildlife exploration. Examples include the Student Wildlife Club, Horticulture Club, outdoor sports groups and the Forestry Club, which takes frequent trips to state parks and reserves throughout the Midwest.

Additional extracurricular activities include a Drama Club, Student Government and opportunities for students to start additional clubs.

Dakota’s Learning Center provides comprehensive assistance through group and individual tutoring in Math, English and Social Studies, Study Skills classes and services for disabled students.

Since Dakota has an open enrollment policy, anyone with a GED or high school diploma may enroll. SAT or ACT scores are used for placement purposes only. If a student has not taken this test he or she will simply need to take a school placement test.

Scholarships and other forms of aid are available to those who qualify.
