Oberlin College is a private, highly selective liberal arts college in Oberlin, Ohio. It was founded in 1833 by abolitionist Congregational Christians, and is home to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, making it the only top-ranked liberal arts college (#20 according to US News & World Report) with a top-ranked conservatory. A study found that more 1999-2003 Oberlin College alumni receive doctorates than do alumni from any other liberal arts college in the country.
Oberlin College is a member of the Great Lakes Colleges Association and The Five Colleges of Ohio consortium, including Ohio Wesleyan University, Denison University, Kenyon College, and The College of Wooster.
Oberlin College's motto is "Learning and Labor." While its school colors are often casually referred to as "crimson and gold," they are actually cardinal red and mikado yellow. Those are the colors--from the family coat of arms of John Frederick Oberlin--that were formally designated for the college by a faculty committee in 1889 and are the ones that remain in the official registry of school colors maintained by the American Council on Education.
The newspaper of record is The Oberlin Review. There is also an "alternative" student-run newspaper called The Grape.
Both the college and the town of Oberlin were founded in 1833 by a pair of Presbyterian ministers, John Shipherd and Philo P. Stewart. The ministers named their project after Jean-Frédéric Oberlin, an Alsatian minister whom they both admired. Oberlin attained prominence because of the influence of its second president, the evangelist Charles Finney, after whom one of the College's chapels and performance spaces is named. Its first president was Asa Mahan (1800-1889), who served as president from 1835-1850.
The college was built on 500 acres (2 km²) of land specifically donated by the previous owner, who lived in Connecticut. Shipherd and Stewart's vision was for both a religious community and school. For a more detailed history of the founding of the town and the college, see Oberlin, Ohio.

Question:
college suggestions please?
Alright so I guess I'm really picky, but I have yet to find the perfect college for me. I really just want to find that one fit.
I intend to doube major in psychology and visual art, or major in psychology and minor in art. I don't want to go to an art school, rather a liberal arts school, but I am very artsy and love theatre and music. I want to go to a medium sized school that's not urban but near a big city. I have about a 3.85 GPA with 4 APs and several honors and am heavily involved in student activities. I need a school that will cost me less than $30,000 total a year or a school that gives a lot of scholorships. I live in Ohio, and I don't want to go TOO far away from home, but still suggest any colleges that you think would fit regardless of distance.

I think Oberlin, Brown, and Swarthmore would be good fits for your interests. These three colleges are strong in all academic fields as well as in arts. They are also known for giving generous financial aid packages.
Hope this helps, good luck.

What do you want to know?
Oberlin is a superb, highly selective liberal arts college in Ohio. It has a history of being progressive on issues of race and gender, conferring the very first degrees in America to women and African-Americans. It continues in this tradition.
It is a small school, with very personalized attention from professors. It is in a beautiful small college-town setting, and is
an hour or so away from Cleveland.
It has a great "semester away" program. It encourages independent studies. It has an excellent Music Conservatory program. Its environmental studies program is also outstanding.

A qualified yes. Oberlin is an absolutely wonderful school and an Oberlin education will give you many opportunities.
Whether Oberlin is the right school for you depends on how you would like to focus your studies. If you want a broad education (for example, studying chemistry, dance, philosophy and physics all in the same semester) then it will be a perfect place for you. However, if you want to do scientific research and only scientific research, then it may not be the best place for you.
Before applying, you should visit the campus and sit in on some classes if you have the time and resources. That is what really hooked me on Oberlin.
Best of luck in your college search!
