College Advice on Capella University - Minneapolis |
Question: Capella University Textbooks? Are textbooks included with tuition for Capella University?25 months ago
Best AnswerNo. Capella uses text books written by other professionals and experts. Some schools include text books in their tuition but then have extra fee's on top of them. Capella has no extra fee's. I have been a Masters student there for 18 months. |
Question: Can a graduate of Capella University expect to teach college level courses or become a college administrator?I am thinking of getting my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education from Capella University. Will it be recognized? Any history of alumni of the school?30 months ago
Best AnswerYes you can. Many alumni of Capella University have gone on to teach and move into administrative positions at high schools, school districts, and colleges. In fact, some have even won awards in education. Capella University PhD graduate named dean of Brenau University's School of Business and Mass Communication found at http://www.capellaeducation.com/news/news/08-27-07_lightfoot.aspx Capella University graduate student named president-elect of the Independent College Advancement Associates (ICAA) found at http://www.capellaeducation.com/news/news/07-05-07_icaa.aspx Capella University PhD Graduate Named a Dean at Anoka-Ramsey Community College found at: http://www.capellaeducation.com/news/news/01-16-07_lampi.aspx Capella University PhD Student Named Outstanding Professor of the Year at the City College of New York Center for Worker Education found at: http://www.capellaeducation.com/news/news/08-07-06_mealy.aspx Capella University PhD Graduate Named Georgia Middle School Principal of the Year for 2005; Martha Richardson Received Doctoral Online Degree from Capella in Leadership in Educational Administration found at http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2005_Sept_26/ai_n15630875 Ignore Taranto. She or He is "old school" and has not grasped the changing times. More and more schools (including state and private schools) are offering online programs catered to the working adult for two reasons. 1) declining enrollment numbers of traditional students (18-22 y.o.) are causing school to look for revenue elsewhere and 2) enrollment at for profit schools are growing at a rate of 9% per year compared to the 2% national average at traditional campuses. Also, recent AP articles show that companies are offering more educational benefits to employees than ever before spurring the growth of online schools for working adults. Taranto teaches at a traditional college where he or she lectures to kids all day. For profits teach to people with experience and knowledge that no professor could give you in a lecture. Could you imagine sitting in a class of eighteen year olds listining to some old person teaching you about something he or she has never did in the real world? That's exactly what I thought. |
Question: I am considering attending Capella University. What can people tell me about it?I am looking at attending Capella University and getting my Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management. What can people tell me about them?32 months ago
Best AnswerDale. Capella is one of the best and most reputable online schools around. Not only are they known for their rigerous and challenging course work but they are highly regarded by Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies such as Home Depot, WalMart, Target, Johnson and Johnson, Boeing, Microsoft, Northwest Memorial Hospital, US Bank, and Kieser Permenta but they have additional professional or specialized accreditations that go way beyond their regional accreditation. Capella is the ONLY online school that is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Other Minnesota colleges/universities possessing this acceditation are Winona State, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota State U. in Mankato and Moorhead. This accreditation is extremely difficult to get. Also, Capella University was recently recognized at a National Security Agency/Department of Homeland Security Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. What does this mean? Simply that Capella University offers an education that meets or surpasses the standards that the Federal Government has set forth in educating IT professionals in securing top secret data. Another extremely difficult recognition to achieve. And finally and more to your area of study, Capella University is the only online school that has been recognized by the Society for Human Resource Managers as being allowed to map its educational structure in the HR studies to the SHRM model. You are making a wise choice. |

Question: What do you think about Capella University?36 months ago
Best AnswerI think Capella is a perfectly fine school that is going through some growing pains as it learns how to provide high quality in the on-line education market (almost every institutions doing on-line learning is on a steep learning curve). The more important question, if you are a student considering attending Capella, is, "Are you the kind of self-starting self-sufficient student who can keep yourself moving forward without the structure of in-person classes and a more tangible schedule?" While on-line learning can be a boon for people juggling school with multiple roles like careers and family, it can also sink students who need a nudge here and there to complete their work on time. I think Capella is a fine choice if you are the type of person who succeeds in this type of environment. There are other choices besides pure on-line and pure in-person learning. Many universities now offer hybrid approaches that mix on-line and in-person so that you get some structure along with a more flexible schedule. Also, some institutions allow to take some course completely on-line while taking other courses completely in-person and still other course in a hybrid manner. The most important thing for you to understand when choosing a college is how you best learn and if the environment of the institutions will bring out your best learning. To thine ownself be true. By the way, I am a college administrator who works for a competing system (in the spirit of honesty and objectiveness). |
