Description
As a leading metropolitan university, we achieve our mission at Widener by creating a learning environment where curricula are connected to societal issues through civic engagement. We lead by providing a unique combination of liberal arts and professional education in a challenging, scholarly, and culturally diverse academic community. We engage our students through dynamic teaching, active scholarship, personal attention, and experiential learning. We inspire our students to be citizens of character who demonstrate professional and civic leadership. We contribute to the vitality and well-being of the communities we serve. Our academic programs have strong regional and national reputations. For example, Widener’s doctoral nursing program has a long tradition of preparing graduates to become leaders in nursing education, with many alumni holding positions as senior faculty, chairs, deans, and even as president of a university.
The diversity of programs offered in the College of Arts and Sciences is what you might expect to find at larger universities. You can choose from among twenty-five majors in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The 25 available minors include 8 certificates and teacher certification. Pre-law and pre-medicine advisors help students in a variety of majors prepare for law school or medical school. All of the college's classes are taught by faculty who have advanced degrees in their fields, either their Ph.D. or their master's.
Located in the Whiteland Business Park, (25 miles west of the Main Campus and 30 miles from Philadelphia), the Exton Campus offers undergraduate programs for professionals seeking to improve or acquire new skills.
The Exton Campus also houses Widener's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), an academic cooperative that provides opportunities for intellectual development, cultural stimulation, and social interaction for adults in retirement.
