University of Illinois- Springfield
1 University Plaza, Springfield, IL 62703
School Description
Provided by University of Illinois- SpringfieldUIS is one of three campuses of the University of Illinois. We provide an intellectually rich, collaborative, and intimate learning environment for students, faculty, and staff, while serving local, regional, state, national, and international communities.
* UIS serves its students by building a faculty whose members have a passion for teaching and by creating an environment that nurtures learning. Our faculty members engage students in small classes and experiential learning settings. At UIS, the undergraduate and graduate curricula and the professional programs emphasize liberal arts, interdisciplinary approaches, lifelong learning, and engaged citizenship.
* UIS provides its students with the knowledge, skills, and experience that lead to productive careers in the private and public sectors.
* UIS serves the pursuit of knowledge by encouraging and valuing excellence in scholarship. Scholarship at UIS is broadly defined. Faculty members are engaged in the scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and teaching. Excellence in teaching and meaningful service depend on a foundation of excellence in scholarship.
* One vital area in which UIS extends its scholarship, teaching, learning, and expertise beyond the campus is in the broad area of public affairs. From its location in the state capital, UIS shapes and informs public policy, trains tomorrow’s leaders, and enriches its learning environment through a wide range of public affairs activities, programs, and organizations.
* UIS empowers its students, faculty, and staff by being a leader in online education and classroom technology. UIS uses technology to enhance its distinctive learning environment and extend that environment beyond the boundaries of the campus.
With a population of about 105,000, Springfield also boasts a wildlife sanctuary, zoo, memorial gardens, botanical gardens, and the world's largest carillon.
A lively music scene includes jazz, blues, community theater, municipal opera, comedy, and live bands all over town.
Shopping enthusiasts come from all over the area to central Illinois' largest enclosed shopping facility, White Oaks Mall, and to the specialty shops in Springfield's downtown historic district.
Regular bus service is provided from the UIS campus to the mall, downtown area, and to other points around the city.

Question: Is there really a difference between a University and it's extension campus?I would like to go to the University of Illinois. This University is somewhat prestigious. Would attending an extension campus like University of IL in Springfield really be that much different.9 months ago
Best AnswerNo. Your degree just says "University of Illinois," not the campus name. Also, if you don't tell anyone, who's going to know??? |
Question: How much will it cost to attend university of illinois at springfield?I'm trying to come up with an estimate of the total cost to attend UIS without scholarships or anything. I came up with $3,780. Now I know that has to be wrong, anyone have an idea?21 months ago
Best Answerhttp://www.uis.edu/newsbureau/2008/03/bot-approves-tuition-hike-uis-remains.html The cost of tuition per semester is $3780. The fees are $700 per semester. The standard room and board package is $4223 per semester. So, yearly, you will spend more than $17406. The yearly cost is probably about $19000. |
Question: is the University of Illinois in Springfield a good college? Please don't say it depends on what you want to major in. I mean, Yale is a good college overall. So can you tell me if it is a good college to get in? I'm thinking of going there. And if anyone goes there can you tell me about it?22 months ago
Best AnswerBy far the best college in the UI system is UIUC. Chicago and Springfield are not even close. It's not a bad school, but both UIUC and UIC are not ranked nationally, whereas especially in engineering, UIUC is a top 5 school. |
Question: what's the average score on the ACT to get into the University of Illinois-Springfield???i'm really interested in attending this college, but i have a low ACT score right now, a 22. i'm planning on taking the test again, but if anyone knew what the lowest score they accept, that would really help me out. i've heard that this college is a LOT easier to get in to, but you can't always be too sure. if anyone has any advice or knows the answer to my question, it would really be beneficial in my college planning. thanks! =] i'm really interested in attending this college, but i have a low ACT score right now, a 22. i'm planning on taking the test again, but if anyone knew what the lowest score they accept, that would really help me out. i've heard that this college is a LOT easier to get in to, but you can't always be too sure. if anyone has any advice or knows the answer to my question, it would really be beneficial in my college planning. thanks! =] ***just wanted to note that UofI Springfield IS the college i'd like to attend. i have a 3.8 gpa & rank 76 out of 626 in my class. i'm not "settling" for the school as much as it may sound i am. i only heard it was easy to get into. i don't really want to go to Champaigne, but i've always wanted 2attend UofI or 1 of the branches of the university. i just want 2make sure that i'm possibly in a decent standing of making it into this school. i am going to retake the ACT, but i'm a bad test taker. if the highest i can get is a 22 then so be it. thanks again32 months ago
Best AnswerThere are no minimum requirements at the ugly stepsister campus of Illinois. They fill their slots with the best students until the class is full. So, it there are 800 slots for the freshman class, they take the 800 best students. They do not look at ACT score only... if you have a high GPA, then they may send your name to the front of the line. If your GPA is hovering around a 1.8 though, then you might be rejected outright. Now, keep in mind that this is the third best campus of Illinois (out of three), so the hyper-studying wunderkinds are over in Champaign and not applying to Springfield even as a safety school. It drops the pool considerably. Plus, if you are not thinking about liberal arts majors, then this will be a TERRIBLE fit in terms of college choice. However, they are in the process of rebuilding their public administration and public policy programs to be rather impressive. But you did not mention that you thought it might be a good school to get an internship at the State House. You said you thought they were easy to get into. That's the worst possible reason to go to a school. So, do you retake the ACT, or not? You are correct in assuming that a 22 on the ACT will lessen your chances of getting into most colleges, but the tone of your posting indicates that you are willing to settle for any college who will accept you. Is THAT what you really want? If that's it, then maybe you should think about community college. Two years of stellar academic performance, and you could go to any university in the state (including UIUC... really, that's the route my DH took). A little extra experience with college classes may better define which programs you want, and which school is a best fit. Or, if that doesn't sound appealing, then take the ACT again, boost the score by a couple points, and then apply to the state school of your choice (probably not Illinois, but ISU or Northern might be within reach). You don't want to get "stuck" at a college that is really not for you, just because you didn't think you could go somewhere else. |
