The Art Institutes recruit heavily in the high schools and they make it sound so glamorous. But the quality of the education can vary tremendously. For one thing: who is teaching the classes? Doesn't it seem odd to you that most schools highlight their faculty and the credentials they have, but often the art schools don't say anything about who they hire to teach? You should also consider the reality that even while you want to focus on some aspect of art or design, it takes more than good art skills to be a professional success. That is why most colleges/universities have BFA degrees that require you to take a range of courses besides your studios. My experience has been that the Art Institutes are often promising more than they deliver and they are often more expensive than a good college would be. Be cautious. Ask tons of questions if you are seriously considering this. If they don't answer clearly or their answers conflict from one person to the next, then run! Ask professionals who are working in the area you want to pursue to give you their opinions of good schools and strong programs.
