History

Early history

In 1910, the Kent State Normal School was established as a college for training public school teachers as part of the Lowry bill which also created a sister school in Bowling Green, Ohio, now known as Bowling Green State University. The new school was constructed on land donated by William S. Kent (son of Marvin Kent, the namesake for the city of Kent, Ohio) in what was then the eastern edge of Kent, Ohio. The first president was John Edward McGilvrey, who served from 1912 to 1926. By 1915, the school was named Kent State Normal College, then Kent State College (after it was authorized to issue Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees), and Kent State University in 1935 when it received university status by Governor Martin L. Davey, a native of Kent.

In 1967, Kent State became the first university to run an independent, student-operated Campus Bus Service. It was unique in that it provided jobs for students, receiving funding from student fees rather than bus fares. Campus Bus Service was the largest such operation in the country until it merged with the local transit authority (Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA)) in 2004.

Question: is kent state university a good school?

I have been accepted to kent and ohio u and I want to go to a good school. If I get a degree in psych from kent, will it look good for jobs?

My uncle was a dean at Kent many years ago (he's since passed). Kent actually has an excellent reputation in Ohio. That said, you should think about the degree you're pursuing. A BA in psych, honestly, might only force you to go on quickly to obtain a master's as well (for instance, you'd need counseling hours and courses if you want to use it to be a counselor at a school or even see patients, and that's usually a MA or even doctorate). The key is what you plan to do with that degree. If your goal is to simply get a job, any job, then any accredited school will work. If you're planning on beginning graduate work right away, you want the school with the best reputation to get you into the higher level, or choose the school where you could possibly stay to finish your MA right there. Your third option is to choose a school where you'll do well b/c it's the right environment for you--in which case, you will do better there than anywhere else. And your class ranking and GPA will help you land a better job and a better MA program as well. But FYI, although Kent is a great school, OU is a Tier 1 school versus Kent's Tier 3. Just raw numbers, but it might matter to you. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/items/3100 Good luck!

Question: Kent State University?

I am going to Kent State University and i am not entierly sure of what program to get into. I know that fashion design is one of its most famous repitoirs but what else is popular? What do most people do?

Well, I am in journalism, which is quite a big school there as well. Architecture is another popular one. But don't pick a major based on what the majority of other people are doing. You should choose what you would like.

Question: I am looking to go to Kent State University of Ohio. I need advice.?

I am planning on majoring in broadcast journalism with a minor in either fashion or pre-law. I love this school, but is it a good idea?
