University of Wisconsin - La Crosse School Description

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse shares in the mission of the University of Wisconsin System which is to develop human resources; to discover and disseminate knowledge; to extend knowledge and its application beyond the boundaries of its campuses; and to serve and stimulate society by developing in students heightened intellectual, cultural, and human sensitivities as well as scientific, professional, and technological expertise and a sense of purpose. Inherent in this broad mission are methods of instruction, research, extended education and public service designed to educate people and improve the human condition. Basic to every purpose of the system is the search for truth.

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was founded in 1909 as the La Crosse Normal School. Today, it is one of the 13 four-year campuses in the University of Wisconsin System. Originally known for its nationally recognized physical education program, UW-La Crosse now offers 85 undergraduate programs in 30 disciplines, and 21 graduate programs and emphases in eight disciplines.

The compact 119-acre campus located in a residential section of La Crosse provides a vibrant place to live and learn. Enrollment has grown from 176 when the doors opened to more than 9,000. Statewide, freshman credentials are second only to UW-Madison, and showed the most improvement in ACT scores and class rank during the past decade, according to the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance. The campus embraces diversity, a commitment that has increased minority and international students, faculty and staff. Students take part in an array of organizations and community service. Intercollegiate teams compete in 19 sports and have produced 21 national championships since 1990.

The university offers much to the region - cultural events, regional and national conferences, prominent speakers, applied research, professionals with varying expertise, a large workforce, and numerous faculty, staff and student community volunteers. UW-La Crosse works cooperatively with the city's other higher education institutions and area elementary and secondary schools. Also, the university led development of a consortium among the city's higher education institutions and major health care organizations to bring cutting-edge health care to the region, along with a state-of-the-art health research and education facility.

For more than 90 years UW-La Crosse has been the prominent intellectual engine that educates a high quality workforce for the region. The university remains proud of its regional heritage and looks forward to retaining its prominence in the area's economic vitality.

Question: which university should I go? Wisconsin-La Crosse or Western Michigan University (WMU)? Thanks for answer?

I am very confused about these two choices. If you were me, please tell me which one you would prefer? According to your expericene or info., which one has higher reputation, more job opportunity for computer science and better campus and city life. Thanks for all of your passion to answer :) In fact, it doesn't make sense to me about their ranking in USNEWs.com. Is schools in National raking always better than in Area ranking? For example, WMU is National 3 Tier and UW-La crosse is Mid-west 22.

uw-l is a really nice school. that's where i am going. i turned down uw-madison for it! it has a more hometown feel, yet lacrosse is really growing. i heard the teachers there are really great. plus it's like the 2nd or 3rd best UW school.its also very competition to get accepted this year. like 7500 applied and they could only take like 1500. so if ur accepted, its a good deal to take! the classes are supposed to be nice and small. and they really make u feel welcome. theres tons of classes to choose from and lots of opportunities. good luck! i know how hard of a choice it can be! maybe i'll c ya there!!
