Description

Darton College, located in Southwest Georgia, is apart of the University System of Georgia and acts as its two-year unit. Founded in 1963, Darton College was originally founded as Albany Junior College and later offered its first classes in 1966. The name was changed to Darton College in 1987 and was chosen by a group of students, faculty and staff. Since Albany is located on Flint River, the name “Darton” fits perfectly which means “town by the water.”

Darton College is described as having a feeling of a “private school” with state-of-the-art facilities and other academic services. Students at Darton College can choose to pursue the associates degree program or certificate program with different areas of study to focus on. Extracurricular activities as well as organizations and athletics are also an important part of Darton College that focuses on building a prominent and thriving student life on campus.

Darton College’s vision was to be able to prepare students for a technological society as well as provide high-quality educational programs and make a commitment to public service. Such goals would allow Darton College to help create and build an educated community as well as the social, cultural and economical advancement of the community and its surrounding areas.

Because of this commitment to building a better community, Darton College is constantly working towards renewing academic offerings for the needs of students, increasing enrollment capacity, strengthening their partnership with education agencies in the State and increasing efficiency. Darton College is also always working towards maintaining affordability so money doesn’t stand in the way of a student’s education as well as an increase in their participation of economic and research development to help other members of the community as well as the State of Georgia.
