Arizona State University West offers liberal arts and professional programs, engages in discovering and advancing knowledge, and teaches diverse students in a student-centered, interdisciplinary learning environment, as the metropolitan public service campus of Arizona State university.
Arizona State University at the West Campus is one of four university campuses that compose Arizona State University. The West campus was established by the Arizona Legislature in 1984, and is located in northwest Phoenix, bordering the city of Glendale, Arizona.
Unlike a university system, the ASU campuses are all part of a single university, with a common administration presiding over the faculty, staff, and students. As the original ASU campus in Tempe has nearly reached build-out, the university is reorganizing its colleges and schools, moving some to the newer campuses.
In 2008, the West campus was designated as a Phoenix Point of Pride.
The West campus focuses on liberal arts and interdisciplinary programs. The campus is home to nearly 9,000 students and offers 54 degree programs leading to the B.A., B.S., M.A., M.S., M.Ed., M.S.W., and Ph.D. degrees.
The West campus comprises the following schools and colleges:
The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences is the largest of the colleges housed on the ASU West campus. The New College houses 21 degree programs leading to Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
The College of Teacher Education and Leadership focuses on training future teachers for leadership position in schools and school districts. The College offers both the Bachelor of Arts in Education and M.Ed. degrees in Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Special Education. In addition, the College offers a doctoral program leading to the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Innovation.
The ASU School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is housed within the College of Human Services, and awards the B.S., M.S.C.J. and Ph.D. in Criminal Justice.
