DMU Description

The College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa, prepares students to become primary care physicians. The programs allow you to choose your own specialty area in surgery, obstetrics, psychiatry and others.

The academics offered by the college include a master’s degree in Osteopathic Medicine. The program emphasizes intensive preparation for clinical rotations. You’ll have an early introduction to clinical and communication skills as you train with Des Moines’s simulation teaching tools and Iowa Simulation Center.

The program can be completed in two years. Every week you’ll train in Osteopathic Manual Medicine labs and take practical exams to keep you on top of your studies.

If you’re a student who wants to combine your education in osteopathic medicine with leadership skills to enhance your career, you can earn dual degrees in:

  • Public Health
  • Health Care Administration
  • Science in Anatomy
  • Science in Biomedical Sciences

Once you complete the Osteopathic Medicine program, you’ll be eligible to apply for an Osteopathic Manual Medicine fellowship at Des Moines University.

In addition, if you agree to practice medicine in Iowa for at least four years after finishing the program, you may be eligible to receive a full-tuition scholarship.

To enhance your college life, Des Moines University offers a number of professional and recreational student clubs that you can join.

To begin your journey to a career as a doctor of osteopathic medicine, you can apply today. Admissions requirements include having earned a BA or BS from an accredited institution with a science and cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Applicants are also required to have taken the MCAT and provide documentation of prior exposure to medicine by a health care provider.

Students may apply for Des Moines University financial aid by filing a FAFSA.
