VSU Description

Known in particular for its programs in Agricultural Studies, Virginia State University (VSU) offers comprehensive academics as well as research and scholarship opportunities.

In addition to its comprehensive agricultural sciences program, which includes several bachelor’s degrees, research, internship and other opportunities, VSU has other academic offerings. Included among them are degrees in Business, Education, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

A historically black university in Petersburg, Virginia, Virginia State is one of the universities that offer the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship, a scholarship designed for African-American students.

Additional scholarships, loans and other forms of financial aid are available to those who qualify.

Religious, cultural, and service organizations are all part of VSU’s student life. Tutoring, career counseling and other types of services are also available at no extra cost to assist students in their academic, professional and personal journey.

When applying for admission, students are primarily considered on the basis of their grades, SAT scores, personal essay and letters of recommendation.
