Gloucester County College is an accredited, co-educational, two-year, public, community college located in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Gloucester County College is located in Deptford Township.

The college also operates the Business and Industry Training (BIT) Center in West Deptford Township.

Gloucester County College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

History

The college was established in 1966 when the New Jersey Department of Education approved the college's charter. A year prior, the voters of Gloucester County had passed a non-binding referendum calling for the Board of Chosen Freeholders to start a community college in the county.

Charter President Dr. William L. Apetz began his tenure on April 1, 1967, working out of a farmhouse near the corner of Salinas and Tanyard roads where the Gloucester County Superintendent's Office is now located. The first classes were taught in the summer of 1967 at Monagahela Middle School and Deptford Township High School.

Nearly 17,000 degrees have been issued since the college's inception. Enrollment surpassed 6,000 in 2005.

Athletics

The college's athletic teams (the Roadrunners) have won 13 national championships competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Div. III.
