Cabrini College School Description

Cabrini College, located in suburban Philadelphia, is a Catholic, coeducational, residential undergraduate college that strives to be a leader in community service.
Rooted in the heritage of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, the College is a vital part of the international educational ministry of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Linking theory to practice, the College offers programs of study in the liberal arts and professional studies. In providing for the educational needs of the area, the College has a strong commitment to commuter, graduate and adult students.

Cabrini students explore ideas that fascinate them, attack their studies in unconventional ways, break records on athletic fields, inspire others with their art, and work for the common good. What they do with their lives after they graduate is succeed—in business, education, science, and just about every other field you can think of.

Cabrini is the ideal college for the motivated student who aspires to a bright future. Cabrini students learn in small classes with dedicated faculty, they think values matter, and they understand that how they live their lives is every bit as important as the career path they choose.

With our broad range of majors, skilled advising, and extensive support network, many kinds of students thrive here.

There are a variety of ways to get involved at Cabrini because there is so much happening. More than 40 student clubs and organizations let students hone leadership skills and connect with others around shared interests ranging from music to community service to roller hockey.

Cabrini hosts theater performances, concerts, comedy nights, speakers discussing world politics, magicians, and many other events. More than 1,000 activities fill the college calendar each year, offering every student a full array of great ways to get involved in the life of the campus. Cabrini is a place where you can do it your own way: design your own major, study abroad, start your own organization.

Cabrini College

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Cabrini College is a coeducational Roman Catholic residential college in the Philadelphia metropolitan area of Radnor Township, Pennsylvania, founded by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1957. It was one of the first colleges in the United States to make community service a graduation requirement for all undergraduates. Cabrini College has appointed a new president Dr. Marie Angelella George, from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, to take effect in July 2008. The college has gained in its national profile in recent years.

History

Pre-History

The site of Cabrini College was originally the estate of Dr. John T. Dorrance, inventor of the process for condensed soup and president of the Campbell Soup Company. Dorrance owned a stable with many horses, had social events within the main hall of his mansion, and also had personal servants. The property was purchased by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC) in 1953. It was first named "Villa Cabrini" after the organization's namesake, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini. At first, Villa Cabrini was an orphanage.

Founding and growth

In 1957, Sister Ursula Infante established a school in the villa. Upon opening, it was a female-only school of only thirty-seven students. The orphanage was still a part of the community and they shared the use of the buildings.

The first graduating class was in 1962 and in 1965. Also around this same time period, Cabrini was awarded full accreditation by the Middle States Association.

In the 1950s era, Cabrini was only made up of a few buildings. The mansion of the college was the central point of the college, housing the students, providing a cafeteria, their classrooms, their library and their chapel. In 1958, they converted the stable house to both classrooms and dormitories.

In 1960, Cabrini finished construction on the Sacred Heart Hall (now known as Founders Hall), which was a library, cafeteria, gymnasium, and even held science laboratories. The 60s also saw the construction of a chapel in 1961 and a library in 1965.

i went to radnor high school which is located about a mile away cabrini. kids from my school FLOOD cabrini because its in cheap enough, average academically, not all that hard to get into. Most of the kids who i know who went to cabrini fit this profile they where B students who gave average effort that where looking to do well but not exactly set the world on fire. An yes alot of kid are into lax who go their, its a big thing on the mainline. Almost everybody in my graduating class played lax. You will probably like the town of wayne however theirs a great movie theater, a ton of restraunts that are affordable 4 college kids, liquor stores, a blockbuster, a supermarket and your local library. If i still hang out in wayne alot if you go to cabrini you will probably see me their without ever knowing it-not to sound creepy or anything. Overall i don't think cabrini is that bad of a school. If you have to choose between harvard and cabrini i wouldn't exactly recommend cabrini but if you only got into a junior college/community college i would give cabrini a shot.
