School Description
Provided by Puget Sound Christian CollegePuget Sound Christian College is a nonprofit institution of higher education, incorporated under the laws of the State of Washington. In 2002 the Trustees updated the mission statement to the following:
Puget Sound Christian College serves the greater Christian community
by developing leaders, grounded in a biblical worldview,
able to impact diverse cultures for Jesus Christ
Philosophy of Education
PSCC is a Christian institution. That means that we believe in and strive to live out the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Further, we consider ourselves to be a Bible college. This means that we do more than give lip service to the Bible. We deem it to be the very Word of God, and therefore of inestimable value to humans. The Bible is God's self-revelation to us, not merely a collection of human attempts to understand God. This authoritative position for the Bible means that we take very seriously the responsibility to understand Scripture correctly (interpretation) and to live our lives in accordance with its precepts (application). While PSCC traces its roots to the 19th century American Restoration Movement, and its primary constituency are the Christian Churches who are heirs of this movement, PSCC opens its doors in a non-sectarian spirit to all Christians who are committed to the Lordship of Christ and the authority of Scripture.
Philosophy of General Education
Puget Sound Christian College’s general education requirements encourage and enable students to 1) interpret and refine their cultural heritage; 2) understand and appreciate the world in which they live; and, 3) develop personal skills in communication. Believing that all truth is God’s truth, the general education requirements of Puget Sound Christian College stand with the biblical and theological requirements as a means of encouraging and guiding the formation of an integrated Christian worldview. Through their study in areas such as literature, history, philosophy, science, the fine arts, and written and oral communication skills, students will develop a better understanding of themselves as human beings, society around them, and the physical universe.
General education should give students the values, attitudes, knowledge, and skills that are the basic tools for life and the foundation for further professional and vocational studies. Believing that the liberal arts are practical arts, Puget Sound Christian College sees the arts and sciences as an essential part of professional preparation and practice. Therefore, general education requirements must be seen as central and foundational to any and all professional or vocational studies.
