Description

Oakland-area residents who are interested in a college that will give them some quiet time away from the city and prepare them to transfer to University of California should look into Alameda College.

Located on an island just outside of Oakland, the campus of Alameda College allows students to get a respite from the urban environment without going too far outside the city.

Academics include liberal arts, sciences and humanities with majors in African-American Studies, Astronomy, Biology, French, Latin American Studies and Sociology, just to name a few. Students enrolled in such programs can become eligible to transfer to such schools as UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA and San Francisco State University.

Career programming includes training for such fields as automotive technology, aviation technology, dental assisting and office administration.

Since Alameda College is so close to Oakland and San Francisco, much of the student life can be found in the diverse activities of these cities. There are also on-campus activities for those who wish to network with other students and gain leadership and other skills. For those who are not local there are also online courses available.

Tuition is lower for California-state residents and financial aid options include loans and veteran’s benefits for those who meet federal and school requirements.

Enrollment is open to any student who has a high school diploma or GED.
