MBC Description

Tradition and progress are both embodied at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia.

Regardless of whether you enroll in Mary Baldwin’s innovative adult degree program (which enables working adults to get a bachelor’s or graduate degree) or Mary Baldwin’s College for Women, academic excellence prevails.

With high rankings from U.S. News and World Report and a long tradition of educating women, Mary Baldwin’s College for Women offers academic programs through four distinctive schools. Among them are the School of Arts, Humanities and Renaissance Studies, the School of Education, Health and Social Work and the School devoted to Social Sciences, Business and Global Studies.

In addition to departmental academics Mary Baldwin houses several institutes and centers including the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership and a center dedicated to Civic and Global Studies.

At the graduate level Mary Baldwin offers, among other programs, an MFA in Shakespearean Performance, one of a few of its kind in the United States.

Social and civic leadership and service are emphasized both in the classroom and beyond, with Mary Baldwin students engaging in numerous community service activities. Mary Baldwin’s other campus activities include arts offerings, student clubs and a number of traditional events, including festivals and special interest days, which have been held throughout the years since Mary Baldwin’s beginnings.

The most important factors in evaluating prospective applicants to the women’s college are grades and test scores.

A limited number of merit-based scholarships are awarded yearly, as are work-study awards and other financial aid sources.
