Welcome to Manatee Community College! We offer quality programs, state-of-the art facilities and first-class faculty to help students achieve their educational, career and life goals.

The area’s oldest public institution of higher education, Manatee Community College is an accredited, two-year Florida institution established in 1957 to provide college training for residents of Manatee and Sarasota counties. The College is a member of the state's 28-institution community college system and receives the majority of its funding from state allocations, tuition and fees.

Students attend classes at two full-service campuses in Bradenton and Venice, the Center for Innovation and Technology at Lakewood Ranch, many business and public sector sites throughout the community, and from their homes via distance learning opportunities.

For students, MCC understands that learning also takes place outside of the classroom and supports the inter-relatedness of academics and extracurricular activities. There are many opportunities for involvement including academic teams, clubs and student government; competitive and intramural sports; and theatre and music productions.

The original 100-acre campus near Sarasota Bay is located in southwest Manatee County and convenient to residents in both counties. This full-service campus holds the largest student population. All student services are available here, and the administrative offices for the College are housed at this location.

Many aspects of campus life are available at MCC Bradenton. The Lancer Café, located in the Student Union, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bookstore is also housed in the Student Union and provides books for classes as well products, such as t-shirts and backpacks, that show MCC spirit. Numerous clubs and intramural sports activities are located on this campus. The Campus Ministry building is centrally positioned on the grounds. MCC Bradenton is home to the Neel Performing Arts Center and David S. and Anne V. Howard Studio Theatre where theatre productions, musical ensembles and other performances are presented. The Lancers athletic teams play their home games at this location using the athletic fields and gymnasium.

Recent additions and improvements to MCC Bradenton include a new 25,793 square-foot Art and Design Building that opened in Fall 2007. The building offers high-tech classrooms and labs for graphic design, drawing, photography, film, framing, ceramics and sculpture. In 2008, a renovated Music and Theatre Building opened. The 19,500 square-foot building, a wing of the Neel Performing Arts Center, has its own entrance and holds a music rehearsal room, studios, offices and practice rooms. The David S. and Anne V. Howard Studio Theatre is also housed here with an overhead catwalk system, dressing rooms, ticket office, scene shop and prop storage areas.

Manatee Community College (MCC), with the main campus based in Bradenton, Florida, is a two-year community college accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science and Associate in Science degrees as well as Certificate program offerings. Noncredit education is offered under MCC's Corporate & Community Development programs.

More than 50 percent of the college bound high school students in Manatee and Sarasota counties attend MCC each year, with current enrollment exceeding 10,000 students. MCC is among the top 100 producers of associate's degrees in the country.

Students attend classes at two full-service campuses in Bradenton and Venice, the Center for Innovation and Technology at Lakewood Ranch, many business and public sector sites throughout the community, and from their homes via distance learning opportunities.

History

Manatee Community College was established on September 17, 1957 by the Florida State Board of Education as Manatee Junior College. The college came into existence under a broader plan implemented by the State Board of Education intended to provide accessible higher education to the greater majority of Florida's population. The first classes were held on September 2, 1958 in what was formerly a senior high school; this first term consisted of a total of 502 students. The college began administering classes in its own facilities in 1959, where the current Bradenton campus stands today.

The Venice center was opened in 1977 by MCC's College Board of Trustees. During this period, the center's functions were funded by donations provided by residents of the surrounding communities which include Venice, North Port, and Englewood. It was not until 1983 that the college received an appropriation from the Florida Legislature to expand the Venice center into what is now the full-service Venice campus, which was dedicated as such on March 30, 1985. The name of Manatee Junior College changed this year to the current name, Manatee Community College.

Question: What questions should I be asking a college before attending?

I'm planning on attending Manatee Community College in a couple of years and came up with these questions: 1. What are the requirements for admission? Foriegn language required? ACT scores? SAT and FCAT scores? Grades? 2. Would I be able to earn a PHD in meteorology at MCC? 3. How many years of college is a PHD? 4. What's the total cost of MCC per year excluding dorm fees and lunch? 5. Does MCC have jobs for students on campus? What type of jobs do they have and how much does it pay? 6. Does MCC have a school bus for students to take to school and back home? 7. What are the school hours for the classes? 8. What credits are required to earn to graduate from MCC? Is a foriegn language neccessary like some people say? Any other questions I should ask before deciding to attend MCC?

Well a lot of the questions you are asking are good questions but since the school is a Community College, it's probably only a two year schools and offers you an Associates degree. Meaning there is no Ph.D program, probably no bus except for the city bus, and it may or may not have dorms. And the admissions requirements will probably be very minimal.
