University of South Alabama From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

The University of South Alabama (USA) is a public, doctoral-level university in Mobile, Alabama, USA. It was created by the Alabama Legislature in 1963, and replaced existing extension programs operated in Mobile by the University of Alabama. At the time that this university was founded, a new concept was implemented in Alabama for the first time; that a public institution of higher education would be created that did not use race as a factor for enrollment. The only place in the state that was really open to this type of policy was the Mobile area. The rich cultural diversity of the Mobile area made it the obvious choice. No other areas of the state were willing to support such a school at that time. Plans for this university were being made as early as 1956.

The University is divided into nine colleges and schools, and includes Alabama's second state-supported medical school. The university has an enrollment of approximately 14,000 students. To date, the University has awarded over 62,325 degrees.

The University has an annual payroll of $245 million (US), with over 5,800 employees. It has remained one of Alabama's fastest growing universities for the past several years.

im starting there monday ill be transfering in as a jr from my comm. college...i had my heart set on auburn but usa is closer to home..i was upset at first but after attending orientation im pretty excited it seems like a good school, not too big but not really small either... anytime ive had questions about my degree or fin. aid etc. they are very willing to help and always do so very quickly...as far as classes go...i havent been yet but ive had teachers email their syllabus ahead of time to get started... the classes seem to be challenging but not unbearable..they seem to have a good balance. they are best known for health programs...they also have the only meterology prog. in al public univ. and the college of education is in a very nice facility ..
Thinking maybe USA for medschool...what are some good areas to live with 2 small children...How expensive is it for housing? Is it possible to get enough loans and grants to go into medicine without struggling with a job?
