School Description
Provided by Kuyper CollegeKuyper College is a ministry-focused Christian leadership college that educates and trains Christian leaders for ministry and service. Through the integration of a high-quality academic curriculum and a Reformed worldview, we provide students who desire a well-rounded biblical and academic college experience with the opportunity to see, understand, and live all of life through the filter of Scripture. This is instrumental in guiding our students through the process of discovering God glory, communicating this truth to others, and honoring the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
TheKee--The Kuyper Education Experience
Founded as a Bible institute in 1939, and accredited by various regional and national agencies, Kuyper College offers bachelor and associate degrees in a wide variety of academic majors. These ministry and professional majors together form one of seven foundational elements that make Kuyper a very unique college. At Kuyper, we call the sum of these elements TheKee or The Kuyper Education Experience.
Other elements of TheKee include:
A continuous and intentional program of spiritual formation to help students become mature in their faith.
Formal field-education and internship programs with nationally recognized organizations, enabling students to apply to everyday situations the knowledge and skills they've acquired in the classroom.
International studies programs in which students have the opportunity to satisfy requirements in one of several locations throughout the world.
A diversity program that embraces and promotes an environment where people of diverse cultural, ethnic, and denominational backgrounds thrive.
A 15-to-1 student-faculty ratio that ensures individual attention for students from a committed and nationally known faculty.
A Cost-Reduction Program, which offsets the cost for tuition and room and board, making it 30 percent less than that of comparable colleges.
Grand Rapids is Our Home
Kuyper College is located on a beautiful, tranquil, wooded campus a few miles from downtown Grand Rapids, Michiganïranked as one of the top 50 metropolitan areas in the United States by the US Census Bureau. Grand Rapids offers all of the advantages of life in a big city, theater, symphony, professional sports, ballet, opera, and world-class entertainers and entertainment. Yet, it delivers all of those options with the friendly attitude and manners of a medium-sized Midwestern city. In addition, one can find nature's wonderland just a few miles from our campus. Hundreds of miles of sugary-fine sandy beaches, national forests, rivers teeming with game fish, and thousands of miles of hiking trails, plus snowmobiling, snow-boarding, and downhill and cross-country skiing. Big-city excitement, suburban convenience, the bounty of an outdoor paradise; Grand Rapids has it all.
Kuyper College
From Wikipedia, The Free EncyclopediaKuyper College is a ministry-focused Christian leadership college located in Grand Rapids Charter Township, just northeast of the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2006 there were about 275 students enrolled. Dr. Nicholas V. Kroeze is President of the college. 302 students call Kuyper College their home in 2007.
History
Kuyper College was founded in 1939 as the Reformed Bible Institute with a three-year curriculum. In 1970, after changing its curriculum to a four-year program, the Michigan Department of Education authorized the school to confer four-year Bachelor's degrees. Consequently, the name changed to the Reformed Bible College (RBC). On April 21, 2006, the RBC changed its name to Kuyper College after Abraham Kuyper (1837 - 1920). Kuyper was Prime Minister of The Netherlands from 1901 - 1905, and a Dutch Calvinist theologian, considered the father of Neo-Calvinism, who wrote and spoke widely. Kuyper is known for notable alumni who while not named were known for living in places such as "The Palace, The Tree House, The School House, and LLL" With the passing of those popular locations also saw the ending of the "Old School" and thus putting an end to the good ole days when everyone could get along with everybody and high school drama did not exist.
Academics
Throughout its history, the focus of the college has always been the development of students for Christian leadership service. The college offers bachelors and associates degrees in in a variety of academic majors and offers 16 study-abroad opportunities. All students graduate with both a Bible major and a professional area major. The student to faculty ratio is 15 to 1.
Diversity
Kuyper claims to place a strong emphasis on diversity. There are many different Christian denominations represented at Kuyper. Most students are Reformed, though there are many other denominations represented. However, a professor of psychology was recently fired directly following his conversion to Catholicism. This raises serious questions about Kuyper's claims of an inclusive Christian worldview.
