If you want the education and skills to provide general nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, dentist, or physician, then the Practical Nursing program at the Hazelton Area Career Center in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, is a great program for you.

The Practical Nursing program upholds nursing standards set by the American Nurses’ Association and incorporates them to provide constant program development in the ever-evolving field of healthcare.

In addition to an application, admissions procedures require students to have:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a pre-entrance PSB Aptitude Test
  • Eye examination
  • Physical examination
  • Three professional references
  • FBI background check

The program consists of three levels, each 17 weeks in duration. In level one, you’ll learn:

  • Personal-vocational relationships
  • Community health
  • Body structure and function
  • Nursing fundamentals
  • Care of adult patients

Level two includes education in:

  • Maternal-child health
  • Obstetrics, pediatrics, and growth and development
  • Care of adult patients, continued
  • Nursing fundamentals, continued

At level three you’ll round off your education in:

  • Care of adult patients, continued
  • Nursing opportunities
  • Intravenous therapy
  • Geriatrics

Students must also complete work for firsthand clinical experience. Cooperating agencies include Hazelton General Hospital and St. Luke Manor in Hazelton.

Tuition does not include books, uniforms, malpractice insurance, or computer fees. Financial aid is available to eligible students.
