Historically committed to meeting the changing needs of women, Stephens College engages students in an innovative educational experience focused on pre-professional fields and the performing arts and grounded in the liberal arts. Graduates of Stephens are career-ready women of distinction, connected through a supportive network of alumnae across the world, confident in themselves, and inspired by our tradition of the Ten Ideals as core values that enrich womens lives.
For more than 175 years, we have been educating women to become leaders as well as valuable contributors toward the betterment of our society.
Stephens offers a variety of programs at the undergraduate level for women, as well as distance-learning and on-campus programs in our Graduate and Continuing Studies division for both men and women. We take pride in the strong bonds we've developed within our local community of Columbia, Missouri, and within the vast network of Stephens graduates we have across the country.
Stephens offers more than 50 majors and minors. A student-designed major also is available, as well as cooperative programs and preprofessional study in law, medicine and veterinary medicine. Stephens students may enroll in the College’s “Plus One” programs (earning a master’s degree in as little as one additional year). The College also is a member of the Mid-Missouri Associated Colleges and Universities consortium (MMACU) that provides cross-registration opportunities for students, tuition free.
Our commitment to the performing arts, pre-professional programs and the liberal arts is evident in our mission statement. So is our commitment to each student's success at Stephens. Our campus culture offers a values-driven living and learning environment (check out the Ten Ideals); close interaction with faculty and student peers; hands-on experience in the major beginning the student's first year at Stephens; and resources inside and outside the classroom that build students' skills, knowledge and confidence. Our extensive network of alumnae assists students in finding internships and employment after graduation. You can even bring your pet to campus to live with you in a residence hall.
The Stephens faculty includes approximately 55 full-time instructors. Most have Ph.D.s or appropriate terminal degrees in their field. While faculty members conduct research (often with students), publish papers and present at conferences across the country, a commitment to women's education comes first. Teaching is the first priority for Stephens faculty.
Located within walking distance of downtown Columbia, the Stephens campus occupies approximately 86 acres. In addition to its estimated annual economic impact on Boone County of $50 million, Stephens also contributes to the region's social, cultural and intellectual enrichment.

College Advice on Stephens College |
Question: Pet dorms at Stephens college.?So, I've been looking into colleges, in particular, Stephens, they have the minor and major I want and all other requirements that I feel need to be met are met. My only question, is: What are the requirements for the dog if I were to bring mine. I have searched their site many times and can't find anything. Answers will be appreciated greatly. They do allow pets. Look them up. Stephens College allows dogs and cats, they also have a stable for horses. They are one of the two colleges that are known to allow pets.8 months ago
Best AnswerOh I love Stephens, I've never been but that is where my mom went and that is where I would love to go because of there fasion design & film program. They do allow pets, but only small dogs. And you can bring your horse too if you have one and are going to be taking part in their equestrian program, but you have to reserve a spot early. The catch with pets is only upperclass women can have them, and they only allow them in the Hillcrest Dorm-Apartments. Hope I helped! Good Luck with everything! =) |
Question: Anyone here go to Stephens college in Missouri? It's a women's college. They let you keep a cat in your dorm. I really wanna go there...What's it like?37 months ago
Best AnswerNo, but I work for the other women's college in Missouri and we are sister schools. I believe you will find that a woman's college will challenge you academically, encourage your leadership skills, and help you make more friends than you ever thought possible. As for the pets in the dorm, I don't know of any college that allows that because of allergies and health problems. I know some resident directors may have pets (namely dogs because there are fewer allergies to dogs than cats), but can't speak to the situation at Stephens. BTW, Stephens is in a great town (I've done PhD work at Mizzou). Columbia has a little bit of everything and is a terrific college town. If you are interested in attending women's colleges, I will give a link to mine. We offer every student a paid trip to Europe, have a five star chef, and are a great place to start your education (we are a two year school and a lot of students transfer to Stephens). Our scholarships can't be beat and we are very affordable as well. Still, Stephens is a great school - you will enjoy it. Good luck. |
