Question: Grambling State (GSU) vs. University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM)?

Right now I go to Grambling State University. I am a second semester freshman and I'm thinking about transferring to ULM. I think the academics are better at ULM and I have better chances at getting a scholarship there. The only thing that I'm worried about is the fact that Grambling is better known than ULM. One of my teachers told me that when someone looking to hire looks at resumes, they are more likely to hire someone from a school the recognize than a school they don't. Do you think this is a good reason to keep me at Grambling?

No, I don't think this is a good reason to stay at all. What's more important, actually getting a good education or staying at a school just because of its status? I would recommend u go to ULM b/c I also heard that they are better and their admissions criteria are much more challeging that GSU. That probably suggests that if higher scores are needed then they expect the best from their students and give the best! Do you want to feel like you've wasted money on a 4-year education not being properly taught, or go to a school that is better academically..? And then if you have a good chance of getting a scholarship! then hey, Go for it! Get to know some of the new professors at ULM and get some to write you some good reccomendations so that you have the chane to land a great job in this horrible economy.. In the end, the choice is all up to u.. hope ur happy with your decision whatever u choose!! GOOD LUCK!

Question: How to become a resident of Louisiana?

I'm from Michigan and I want to go to the University of Louisiana at Monroe. How do I become a resident so that I can pay the in-state price? Could I be considered an in-state resident after freshman year?

Best Answer

Wow, you want to go to ULM? I'm about an hour away from there. I think your best bet is to call the admissions office and see what their requirements are for establishing residency. Living on campus will not be enough I think you actually have to have a home address that is in the state. Some people do get around it by using a friend or family members address on all of thier correspondance but you have to be very careful to make sure you use that address on everything! They can't know that you are form Michigan. You can ask about the in-state after a year but really I don't think that you can do that; however, just call the admissions office, you don't even have to tell them who you are!
