School Description

Provided by Holy Cross College

Holy Cross College is a residential, coed, four-year institution of higher learning, offering a liberal arts curriculum in the Catholic tradition. It was founded in 1966 and continues to be conducted by the Brothers of Holy Cross a society of lay religious men within the Congregation of Holy Cross (CSC) who take vows of poverty, celibacy and obedience as a way to more creatively and intimately serve the mission of our Savior Jesus Christ, His Body - the Church, and the needs of the world. Brothers of Holy Cross serve through ministries which educate and sensitize persons to the need of the world for justice and peace.

As a student at Holy Cross College, you will gain relevant and contemporary education that combines challenging coursework with real world (and around-the-world) experiences. These experiences include international travel, service to your community, professional internships, and more.

Holy Cross's reputation for producing excellent students is even stronger as a destination school in its own right. Local, national, and international students enroll to earn their four-year BA degrees from Holy Cross College. The College has welcomed students from all 50 states and 30 foreign countries. Currently, we are one of only a handful of colleges in the US accepting Iraqi students as an act of goodwill to help foster peace and understanding between our two countries.

College is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience everything under the sun. Whether you're involved in a Holy Cross club or activity, contributing a video to the website, playing beach volleyball, tennis or flag football, working out, or playing basketball in our Pfeil Center, or just gathering a group of friends to share a coffee ... you'll have numerous opportunities to get involved. These are the kinds of opportunities that will enhance your learning experience in an entirely new way.

There's an exciting mix of activities. Cheer on the Saints in basketball, soccer, baseball, hockey, lacrosse and more and attend the Fighting Irish football games in the Holy Cross cheering section to experience big time college football at its best. You'll find clubs, events, student organizations, special programs throughout the semester. There's billiards, table tennis, even bowling at off-campus venues! Snowboarding, skiing, skating trips are the highlights of winter, while scavenger hunts, Las Vegas nights, dances, plays, performances and more will keep your social life humming.

Located just north of the city limits of South Bend, Indiana, Holy Cross College's 150-acre wooded campus along the beautiful St. Joseph River is adjacent to the campuses of the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College. This geographical proximity gives Holy Cross a unique "best of both worlds" setting in that it offers the intimacy and one-to-one academic attention of a small college with the social and cultural resources of a major university.

I live in Spencer MA, and it has been my dream to attend Holy Cross. It is a hard school to get into, let me tell you that. About 34% of all applicants are accepted. I just sent in all my stuff and I found college board and talking to admissions there very helpful Some of the main requirements are as follows Admission requirements: Essay(s) required, the essay is what really separates you from the rest, I was told that it is very important to focus on an essay that will grab the attention of the reader. HC does not require ACT/SAT scores (SAT around 1300, not including writing), however it is recommended that you would still take them, and send them in. Remember the key is to stand out and show you are committed. Other very important admission factors include your class rank (try aiming for the top 25%). Followed by the classes you take in High School. HC loves AP, they live for that stuff. Followed but your GPA ( Admissions wants above a 3.5, but they do have a sliding scale). Finally, they want to know what you did in high school, HC has so many activity's you can get involved in. Finally the interviews and letters of recommendations will help you get accepted. HC loves letters from alumni (hint). But it all boils down to the Level of Applicant's Interest. Well I hope this helps you out, feel free to talk to me anytime about HC, good luck getting in. Hey maybe I will see you there :-)
