BGSU Description

Undergraduate and graduate studies at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) feature numerous arts and academic majors, including those you won’t see at any other school. BGSU also provides optimal learning opportunities not just in your classroom but also where you live.

Located in Bowling Green, Ohio, BGSU offers one of the oldest Creative Writing degrees in the nation, as well as impressive Visual and Performing Arts programs.

One of the unique and exciting aspects of BGSU’s Theatre, Film and Music Departments is how specialized and diverse its majors are. As a BGSU Theatre Arts major, you will actually have the option to focus on Youth Theatre and Puppetry in addition to Acting, Directing, and Theatre and Film studies.

Since film festivals, theatre and dance performances, musical concerts, art exhibits and literary readings are some of the public events at BGSU, the greater student community may also benefit from its strong arts programs.

Canadian Studies, Earth Environment and Society and Paleobiology are examples of BGSU’s rarer majors. Other fields of study at BGSU include pre-professional programs in Medicine and Physical Therapy and professional programs in Aviation Technology, Aerospace Studies, Education, Engineering, Graphic Design and Social Work. Standard liberal arts and science programs include English, Geography, German Studies, History, Latin, Math and Sociology.

BGSU’s learning communities group residential students in on-campus residences according to their major or a particular theme, such as green living.

Transcripts and SAT or ACT scores are required for most programs, though certain departments, such as Music and Theatre may have additional requirements such as auditions.

Students may apply for scholarships, which are awarded based on academic performance and/or extracurricular or service activities. Grants and loans are other forms of available financial aid, usually awarded according to financial need.
