Bethany College From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Bethany College is a small liberal arts college located in Lindsborg, Kansas. Founded in 1881 as a preparatory school, the college now has an enrollment of 500 students from 27 states and 12 foreign countries (as reported on the college's website) and offers programs in education, fine arts, humanities, business, social sciences, the sciences, and pre-professional areas. Bethany is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It has a Swedish heritage that remains a significant influence on campus. One famous tradition at Bethany is performing Handel's Messiah each year at Easter, an event that dates back to 1882. On the campus grounds can be found the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery, an art gallery dedicated to the artist Birger Sandzén, who taught there for many years. One of the top academic colleges in the Midwest (Rated #44 in the Midwest by U.S. News World Report), Bethany students often find themselves in class sizes of less than twenty.

Bethany Men's tennis team has won 45 KCAC Conference Titles overall, including a streak of 26 KCAC titles in a row. The men currently have won 34 straight KCAC matches in a row, undefeated in the last 5 years of conference play. The Bethany College Men's golf team also held one of the longest winning streaks in all of college sports; winning the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship from 1994-2005.

In May 2007, Bethany College announced the appointment of Dr. Edward F. Leonard III as the college's 13th President. Dr. Leonard previously served as Vice President for College Advancement at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio.
