School Description

Provided by Butera School of Art

The Butera School of Art prepares students for employment in the various professional art fields. This is accomplished through individual instruction. Each student is encouraged to develop to his or her maximum potential. Individuality is what makes an artist stand out. It knows that if students are interested in what they are being taught, they will excel. It trains its students to be able to make it in the real world while still maintaining their own creativity. It guides them using small classes and an abundance of personal attention. This allows each student to concentrate on his or her own individual area of interest.

Students attend classes five days per week for six hours per day. Along with lectures and demonstrations, students execute the artwork and assignments in class with supervision from the instructors.

Butera prides itself in maintaining small classes. Each classroom averages 12 to 18 students. As a result, each student becomes actively involved in the learning process and is encouraged to produce his or her best work.

All courses are conducted by practicing freelance artists who divide their time between
professional work and teaching. Instructors teach courses related to their professional field of employment. Through daily contact, students are exposed to a fresh, constructive, and stimulating variety of ideas straight from the professional world. Each instructor is dedicated to the maximum development of each student’s abilities. The entire school is dedicated to the philosophy of training students to be truly versatile. Although many students have a great desire to focus on one major area in art, Butera emphasizes the need for versatility. The school sincerely believes that a student with exposure to many different skills will enter the workforce as a more marketable artist - someone who can be hired to do a professional job.

Demonstrations offered by the staff, visiting illustrators, designers, art directors, computer artists, and specialty sign artists supplement the instruction and offer a valuable source of inspiration to students. Also, periodic field trips to publishing houses, newspapers, advertising agencies, art studios, and sign companies further round out the Butera program. Butera graduates have not only artistic skills, but also an understanding of the business side of their chosen professions. This Butera Method gives our graduates that something extra that employers look for in applicants.

Butera opens the door to a creative as well as rewarding career in professional art.
