Indiana University - East School Description

The primary mission of Indiana University-East is to provide opportunities for formal learning through instructional programs that lead to the completion of associate or baccalaureate degrees. In performing this mission, the campus often works cooperatively in the development and delivery of instructional programs with schools within the University and with other public or private institutions including Purdue University, Ball State University, Indiana Vocational Technical College and Earlham College. This cooperation insures to regional citizens the broadest choice and greatest mobility within post-secondary education while securing the most effective use of state support and student tuition. A second mission is to provide professional service to organizations, groups and communities in east central Indiana. In pursuit of its instructional and service missions, Indiana University-East is committed to human development, to the betterment of all those who come into substantive contact with the campus.

When you become a student at IU East, you become part of a dynamic campus community. The Office of Campus Life can guide you to the many activities that will enrich your student experience.

Indiana University East offers all the advantages of an Indiana University education and degree that is respected throughout Indiana, the nation, and the world. IU East offers over 50 Indiana University bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in social and behavioral sciences, arts and humanities, business, nursing, education, and technical and professional fields. Students at IU East will find all the services and opportunities of a large university combined with the advantages and atmosphere of a small college.

The campus is located adjacent to Interstate-70 and is less than 10 miles from the Ohio border. IU East offers in-state tuition rates to students from seven Ohio counties.

IU East is one of eight campuses of Indiana University and has an enrollment of about 2,500 locally. The university also offers programs at its regional centers in New Castle, Connersville and Lawrenceburg. Several online degree completion programs are also available.

More than 95 percent of our alumni stay in the region to live and work. The campus is located at 2325 Chester Boulevard in Richmond.

Indiana University East is a regional campus in the Indiana University System. It is colloquially also known as IU East. It is located in Richmond, Indiana, in Wayne County, Indiana.

Academics

IU East offers over 50 degree programs at the bachelor-, and master-degree levels. Forty-eight of these are conferred through Indiana University, whereas 6 are conferred through Purdue University. IU East is well known to area residents for its education, nursing and medical-industry programs.

Indiana University East hosts a branch of the Purdue University College of Technology.

Athletics

Indiana University East is a member of the NAIA and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and offers the following sports:

Campus

IU East's campus lies on (0.704 km²) of land on the northern edge of Richmond, Indiana, near Interstate 70. IU East, Ivy Tech, and Earlham College are the immediate area's largest colleges. IU East has four academic buildings with more planned over coming years.

IU East campus is immediately adjacent to another public college, the Richmond campus of the Ivy Tech Community College system. IU East also houses the Purdue University College of Technology's statewide presence in Richmond.
