From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

The University of Connecticut (Connecticut or UConn) is the State of Connecticut's land-grant university. It was founded in 1881 and serves more than 27,000 students on its six campuses, including more than 9,000 graduate students in multiple programs.

UConn's main campus is in Storrs, Connecticut. The university's president is Dr. Michael J. Hogan, noted historian and former provost of the University of Iowa.

Considered a Public Ivy by some higher education specialists, UConn is one of the founding institutions of the Hartford, Connecticut/Springfield, Massachusetts regional economic and cultural partnership alliance known as New England's Knowledge Corridor. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Campuses

The main university campus is located in Storrs, Connecticut, which is a division of the Town of Mansfield, approximately 28 miles (45 km) east of Hartford, the state's capital. It is situated between North Eagleville Road and South Eagleville Road. The Storrs Road (CT Route 195) cuts through the campus from north to south.

In addition to the main campus in Storrs, there are five regional campuses: Avery Point (in Groton), the Greater Hartford campus (West Hartford), Stamford, Torrington, and Waterbury.

The University of Connecticut School of Law is located in Hartford, and the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine are both located at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. There is a downtown Hartford branch that houses teaching and research facilities for the School of Business.

I just received acceptance letters from two schools for the Master of Science in Accounting. University of Connecticut and State University of New York-Institute of Technology? Which school is better? According to USNews ranking, Uconn ranked as top 100 national schools, but SUNYIT did not have any rankings. I've asked a couple of people in my school, they all said both are good schools, but SUNYIT is more popular. What do yo think? THANKS!

I'm not sure which is the better school, but it all depends on what you're looking for. If you want a school with a better reputation, go with UConn. I have heard good things about SUNYIT, but better things about UConn. Also, cost should be a factor, as well as the online education. SUNYIT is an online education, and I'm not sure if UConn is or not. You might want to consider that as well, if you are planning on taking online classes. If I were you and money was no object, I'd go with UConn. I was accepted at NYU for my Master's but had to pass as money was a HUGE factor. I still received a fantastic education and a public school, and have no regrets about it.
If you do not believe U of C is a good choice, list other colleges in which have approximately the same acceptance rates.

The University of CT is a pretty well know school, so it will not hurt your chances. The bigger factors of gaining acceptance into a medical school, will be your Overall GPA, Science GPA, and MCAT scores. Med schools will also look at your work/volunteer experience in the medical field. So try to shadow a doctor or help with medical research along the way. I would suggest taking a prep course for the MCAT, to ensure you get the highest score possible on that test, and study hard in all of your classes. Also, don't do anything stupid along the way. i.e. drugs, alcohol, etc, that gets you in trouble. Good luck!

It is a pretty routine medium sized state university in a not very interesting small town. You will get a decent education there, but nothing that will make you stand out. If you have no other offers and they are willing to support you (i.e. they're giving you substantial amount of money) then I think it would be fine.
I am not really looking at Wharton/kellogg...being an international student...is it worth investing in the Connecticut MBA program --would appreciate any comments on the quality of MBA faculty, the univ location and employment opportunities...

Were you planning on pursuing an MBA at all, and if so, in which rank of school were you planning on concentrating? The University of Connecticut is a decent, solid school, but not outstanding. If you were planning on looking at Wharton or Kellogg, I would not put this into the same category. If you were looking at local schools, it might be a better choice. If you were not planning to pursue an MBA at all, your bigger decision is whether or not an MBA makes sense to you at all right now.

I think UConn and VATech would be regarded as the most respected, with UTenn also respected. Furman and Belmont, not so much, UConn is in a small town about 25 miles from Hartford. Most of the students are from CT so they would tend to be liberal Yankees. The town doesnt consist of much, but you are about 2 hours from NYC and Boston, so when you want to get out to a big rock show or night on the town, it is pretty easy. UConn has a reputation for very solid academics - the CT high schools are among the best in the nation, so the students there would be competitive. VaTech is in Blacksburg, which is not exactly an entertainment mecca. And it is pretty far from Blacksburg to any center of civilization. That part of VA is quite pretty and rural, so if you like the rural south and feel comfortable with a more conservative, southern crowd, then that would be better for you. The last time I was there they were all excited about having a concert by a big Country Western musician. At least you have some choices that are pretty different from each other - so you have a real decision to make, not just choosing between five schools that are all basically the same.
Can I get into any of these schools? These are through halfway my sophomore year 3.5 GPA but I will probably have a 3.6 GPA by the end of the year public school in connecticut don't know any sat or act scores take all honors classes and will take AP spanish junior year and AP calc and English senior year My school only offers five AP courses in calc, spanish, history, bio, art english, do not have any community service hours so far but I imagine I could have up to 75 by the end if senior year played frosh basketball and football started my own club that has fundraisers to raise care packages to the troops overseas Colleges- 1. UCONN 2. Boston U. 3. Syracuse 4. Ohio State 5. Northwestern 6. Penn State 7. Villanova 8. Pittsburgh 9. Rutgers 10. Fordham 11. Florida State

Is that GPA out of 5 or 4? A 3.5 on a 5 point scale in honors classes isn't great. It's good if its out of four. I'm assuming its out of four for my info below. You will almost definitly get into UCONN, unless you apply for one of their competitive programs (nursing, finance). You could probably get into Boston U. Northwestern is iffy, but you have to be in the top 5 percent of your class to get in there. Penn State you could probably get into. You probably wouldn't get into Villanova alot of people I know had similar grades to yours and didn't get in. Sorry I don't know stats on any of the other one. Some other advice: You mentioned you played sports your freshman year. You've got to keep them up all four years for them to really count. Playing a sport for only one year tells them that you are inconsistant. Study for the SAT's obviously. Does your school have Early College Experiance? I go to a high school in CT and they offer college courses through UCONN. I would take those if you could. If you need any more advice you can email me. I'm also a student from CT.
I really want to apply to a college in CT, but don't want my parents to pay too much for me to go there. (I'm out-of-state). So I do want to go there, but I also don't want to go a poor school with bad education for the "real world" or whatever. Thanks if anyone know anything on this.

U Conn is a relatively affordable state school. It is quite respectable, and highly ranked for a state university. Take a look! Fairfield U and Quinnipiac U are also decent schools, but are a bit more expensive than U Conn. Please don't forget that more expensive colleges often have large endowments, and offer more financial aid than state institutions, however. So if you've got the SATs and the grades, don't overlook Connecticut College, Wesleyan, and Trinity. They are absolutely fantastic schools.
