MUM Description

Maharishi School of Management is a one-of-a-kind school. Maharishi offers bachelor’s and graduate degrees that combine academic study with the practices of transcendental meditation and other techniques designed for mental and physical health.

Located in Fairfield, Iowa, Maharishi School of Management instructs all first-year students in the practice of and science behind transcendental meditation and its benefits.

Students then enter into their major area of study. Degree programs include standard majors like:

  • Art
  • Business
  • Elementary Education
  • Literature
  • Media and Communications
  • Pre-Med

However, the way in which these and other subjects are taught are anything but standard, at least in the United States. Rather than simply imparting information and ideas, students also develop a strong meditation practice throughout their period of study.

Other ways in which college life nurtures mental, spiritual and physical health and wellness is through organic, vegetarian meals, yoga, and other forms of physical exercise and recreation.

Admissions requirements include an application, a transcript or GED scores, recommendation letters, a resume outlining extracurricular activities, and personal essays. ACT or SAT scores are optional, though they may be required if one’s grade point average is below 2.5. A personal interview is also required of all applicants.

Financial aid sources for eligible students include need-based federal awards like grants and loans and school scholarships. The majority of students who receive aid receive it through a combination of loans and scholarships.
