Description

Students at Kent State University in Ashtabula, Ohio, have the advantage of attending a small college while also having access to the benefits of a larger university, such as hundreds of academic offerings.

Situated alongside Lake Erie, the Ashtabula campus of Kent State has fewer than 3,000 students. This makes for an intimate and friendly environment and small classes.

The Ashtabula campus is best known for its nursing program, but also awards degrees through such distinctive schools as:

  • Arts and Sciences
  • Business Administration
  • Education, Health and Human Services

While Kent Ashtabula is small and contained, students nonetheless benefit from its network of seven other campuses, including the main one in the town of Kent. These campuses offer a combined total of more than 300 academic programs. Students at Ashtabula may still enroll in courses at these other campuses while still earning their degree at Ashtabula.

Additional activities at the Ashtabula campus include arts, professional and special interest clubs and community service programs.

Freshmen admissions requirements include a minimum grade point average of 2.5, a college prep curriculum and a minimum ACT score of 21 or combined critical reading and math SAT score of at least 980. Those who do not meet these requirements may, however, still be put on the waitlist and potentially gain admission to Kent.

Financial aid comes from such need-based sources as Pell grants, state grants and work-study. Federal and private student loans are another source of aid. Graduate students may apply for fellowships or assistantships and undergraduates are encouraged to apply for non-work-study employment positions.
