We're a regional state university providing baccalaureate and select associate degrees to meet the educational, economic and cultural needs of Central Maine. With campuses in Augusta and Bangor, and courses offered on-line and across the state, we specialize in delivering professional programs to both recent high school graduates and adults returning to the classroom.
We're friendly in our approach, serious about what we do, and fundamentally committed to serving the communities around us and the community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni that makes us a truly special place.
With its array of professional programs, the University of Maine at Augusta attracts a unique mix of recent high school graduates and adults returning to the classroom. Operating campuses in Maine’s capital and in Bangor, UMA is a community where everyone feels welcome and supported, and all are enriched by the interaction between young and older students.
Most UMA students attend classes on our beautiful Augusta campus. At the heart of the campus is a large central green, ringed by the Katz Library, classroom buildings, the eye-catching new Human Rights and Holocaust Center, and Jewett Hall, home of the Danforth Art Gallery and a concert and performance auditorium.
Rounding out the campus green is our striking Student Technology Center. The hub for all student activities, the Student Center is where you’ll also find our café, bookstore, a state-of-the-art computer lab, and a great lounge for studying or just hanging out with friends.
A short walk from the campus green is Robinson Hall, UMA's one-stop student services center. Among the many offices you’ll find at Robinson Hall are Admissions, Financial Aid, the Dean of Students, the Registrar, and the Bursar. The Office of the President and Provost are also situated here.
Just up the road is the Farmhouse where more administrative offices are located. Nearby are some great nature trails, our playing fields, and the Augusta Civic Center, where the basketball teams compete and the fitness center is located.
The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) is located in the state capital of Augusta, Maine, and is a part of the University of Maine System. UMA is a regional state university providing baccalaureate and select associate degrees to meet the educational, economic and cultural needs of Central Maine. With campuses in Augusta and Bangor, and courses offered on-line and across the state, UMA specializes in delivering professional programs to both recent high school graduates and adults returning to the classroom.
The University of Maine at Augusta was established in 1965 as a continuing education division of the University of Maine. In September, 1967, it was approved as a campus of the University of Maine and began offering day and evening classes. UMA was designated the “Community College of Maine” in 1986 with responsibility for leading the University of Maine System in the provision of associate degree programs and related services throughout the state. As part of this responsibility, UMA developed a statewide interactive television system as well as a network of over 100 off-campus centers and regional sites, and coordinated the delivery of university programs, courses, and services at these centers and sites. In 1994 this system, now called University College, became an independent administrative entity of the University of Maine System. UMA continues to collaborate with University College in the delivery and development of statewide programs. In 1995, the University of Maine System Board of Trustees added University College of Bangor (UCB) to UMA.
The University of Maine at Augusta is divided into three primary academic units or colleges: Arts & Humanities, Mathematics & Professional Studies, and Natural & Social Sciences. Each college is an academic division of the university, which through its dean has administrative responsibilities. Colleges are organized into departments/programs, each representing an academic discipline (e.g. Architecture, Mathematics, and Nursing) or a related set of disciplines (e.g. Business, Humanities, and Natural Sciences). UMA offers 17 baccalaureate degrees, 15 associates degrees, and 13 non-degree cert programs.
