Brevard College is a baccalaureate, residential, church-affiliated institution situated in the Southern Appalachian mountains. Offering an education in theoretical and applied liberal arts, Brevard engages and challenges students in integrating knowledge and practical experience. The programs and opportunities of the College provide graduates the foundation for further formal study, meaningful vocations, responsible citizenship, and lifelong personal and professional development.
There’s more to life at Brevard than getting a degree. We want your education to take you to strange and unusual places and expand your comfort zone by a million miles or so.
Brevard is a small liberal arts college offering distinctive undergraduate degrees in one of the most beautiful settings on earth, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. As a student here, you’ll have outstanding opportunities through our partnerships with organizations like the Pisgah Forest Institute and the Library of Congress’ Adventures of the American Mind. Our fine arts and music communities (including nearby Asheville) provide a remarkable range of cultural experiences.
Learning happens in mysterious ways.
At Brevard, we’re open to all of them.
Here, you’ll learn in the classroom, in the field, by listening and watching, and through total immersion.
In four years at Brevard, you’ll calculate your effect on the environment. You’ll see how seemingly unrelated subjects are surprisingly and amazingly connected. You’ll meet people who don’t think like you do – and explore a whole world of new ideas. And along the way, you’ll find opportunities to put what you learn into practice.
Brevard offers majors that range from Business and Organizational Management to Fine and Performing Arts to Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education. We also have a new Teacher Licensure Program within a number of our academic divisions.
Every day you’ll be challenged to cultivate harmony between the arts, athletics, and academics – and between yourself and your environment. In fact, a lot of your education will take place outside of the classroom through where you live, where you play, and how you get involved. And many of your best lessons will come from the strange mix of wonderfully diverse people you’ll meet during your four years at Brevard: faculty, students, and alumni.
There’s a reason Outdoor Magazine named Brevard one of the “40 Best College Towns” in the United States. Between classes, many of our students tend to spend a lot of time outdoors camping, kayaking, hiking, and rock climbing. But if you’re not the backpacking type, the area’s charm does extend beyond its natural playground.
On campus there are over 30 student clubs and organizations devoted to everything from music to math to service. And roughly half of Brevard students get into intramural sports.
It’s just a short stroll to downtown Brevard where you can go dancing with friends, see movies, or join in on open-mic nights at nearby restaurants. When you’re ready for a change of pace, Asheville’s art and music scene is just a short drive away. And Brevard isn’t far from Charlotte and Atlanta, two of the South’s hottest cities for fun and culture.

Brevard College is a small, private, United Methodist, liberal arts college in Brevard, North Carolina. The college currently grants the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Music degree. Current enrollment is about 700 students.
Founded in 1934 from the merger of Rutherford College and Weaver College, Brevard flourished as a junior college for many years.
During the infamous "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast in 1938, five students fainted and panic gripped the campus for a half hour. Many students fought for telephones to inform their parents to come and get them.
Increasing competition led the college to become a four-year institution in 1996. Brevard awarded its last Associate's degrees in 2006.
The Brevard College campus is located within the city of Brevard, in close proximity to the city center. The city is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, whose beauty attracts many to the school. The college is located in close vicinity to the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway, which both serve as important resources for many of the school's programs relating to art, ecology, environmental issues, and wilderness leadership.
The campus is comprised of mainly brick buildings with large greens and abundant trees. White squirrels are the most famous campus residents. Although commonly mistaken for albinos, the white squirrels found on campus are simply color variants of the typical Eastern Gray Squirrel. The city of Brevard is famous for its white squirrels, and the college campus contains them in large numbers. White squirrels are not exclusive to Brevard, they can be found in various places in the United States.
