The Center for Employment Training in Santa Maria, California, strives to fight poverty and dependence on public aid by offering hands-on career training to people of all educational backgrounds and levels. The center focuses on aiding disadvantaged youth, the unemployed, and those of low income.
The private, nonprofit organization seeks to improve not only the local community and economy, but also the world at large. By providing students of all backgrounds, especially those most in need, with marketable training skills, more people will be able to find gainful employment and contribute to strengthening the community. Training for green jobs is especially emphasized.
Some of the academics and vocational training programs offered at the school include:

- Green Building Construction Skills
All students receive job placement assistance as well as skills in resume building, interviewing techniques and filling out applications. A CET Industrial Relations Specialist works individually with students to help them find a job after graduation.
The center shares partnerships with Velocity Energy Partners, Inc. for green jobs, AvalonBay Communities, Inc., and ALBA for training farm workers for a sustainable future. These partnerships provide students with easy access to professional experience and potential employment.
Admissions are fairly open, as anyone over the age of compulsory school attendance (in California, 18 years old) is welcome.
State and federal sources of financial aid are available to those who qualify through the FAFSA.
