Molloy College offers students a rich, multidimensional educational experience in an academically challenging environment. We foster critical thinking and creative exploration while preparing students to live and work in the global world of today.
Molloy College is located in Rockville Centre, New York, a Nassau County community on Long Island, in the United States. At 30 acres, it is a relatively small campus with no residential facilities. Students generally commute from their homes on Long Island or New York City. Molloy advertises the school's "quality education close to home."
Molloy College was founded by the Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1955 as a college for women. At the time, it was called Molloy Catholic College for Women. It has since dropped its status as a Catholic college, and has also opened its doors to male students. Thus it has become the coeducational "Molloy College: Education in the Dominican Tradition."
Molloy offers undergraduate and graduate programs in numerous areas. It is perhaps best known for its nursing program, which is the fourth largest in the country. In addition, Molloy offers an honors program and interdisciplinary studies for undergraduate students. Graduate students can study in the areas of business, education, nursing, or social work. The social work graduate program is a joint venture with Fordham University. Molloy also offers a selection of continuing education courses each semester.
Its athletic teams compete as the Molloy Lions. Sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, rugby, lacrosse, and soccer for men; basketball, cross country, dance team, rugby, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball for women, as well as an equestrian team for both men and women.
In addition to athletics, there are a number of clubs and organizations for Molloy College students. Molloy's global learning program is also popular, as students can travel to foreign lands to take courses with Molloy faculty at approximately the same cost as taking the courses on campus.
The Molloy College Rugby Football Club was established in 2005 by Brendan Droge, who played collegiately at Iona College. The first match in team history was played on April 1, 2006 against local rival Hofstra University. The team celebrated their first win after a hard-fought 19 – 17 victory over Drew University on October 1, 2006.
