Sauk Valley Community College School Description

Sauk Valley Community College is an institution of higher education that provides quality learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of its students and community.

Sauk Valley Community College was created by the citizens of Public Community College District #506 through public referendum in June 1965. Since that time, Sauk has expanded its programs to provide opportunities not only in the traditional transfer areas, but also in vocational-technical, adult and continuing education, community service, and career education. In recent years, Sauk's commitment to the public has included intercollegiate athletics and cultural offerings.

Sauk Valley Community College ("SVCC") is a Community College in Dixon, Illinois. Whilst technically in Dixon it is closer to the city limits of Sterling, Illinois.

SVCC was built on a donated corn field bordering the Rock River between the cities of Sterling, Illinois and Dixon, Illinois. The Sauk Valley Community College is located on historic Illinois Route 2, and the college has a student body of about 5,000 full and part-time students each semester. Well-known baseball star, Marquise Cody, played at this college during the 2003 and 2004 seasons on his way to becoming a household name in sports. Other notable athletes include cross country/volleyball star Christopher Ratliff, and local beer pong champion Seth Lindquist. It is also home of BJ The Destroyer who is known world wide for his destructive tendencies in the bedroom. Points of interest around SVCC include: Birthplace of Ronald Reagan, Boyhood home of Ronald Reagan, John Deere Historic Site, Dillon Home Museum, and the Lincoln Statue.
