School Description

Provided by West Tennessee Business College

WTBC is committed to providing high-quality and relevant career training for its students. In order to accomplish this mission, the College adapts its academic programs to the changing demands of the business environment and to the individual's needs. This responsiveness to both the business community and to the student population results in a progressive educational atmosphere where students can equip themselves with the tools to be successful in the workplace. This has been our goal for many years since our establishment in 1888, and will remain so into the future.

In the year 1888, a need for better qualified employees in the West Tennessee area was realized. To meet this need, the Jackson School of Business was opened. The school specialized in offering only business subjects like the three R’s: reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmetic, along with spelling and bookkeeping.

One of the primary goals of West Tennessee Business College is the research and development of new programs. The College is currently in the process of submitting a New Program Application for a phlebotomy program. Since the West Tennessee area is a medical hub and contains hundreds of medical facilities, including two hospitals in Jackson alone, there is definitely a need for the program. The area hospitals will hire and train, but it is much easier to obtain employment when the applicant is already certified. We are also researching a Dental Assisting program and a Health Information Specialist program since no local schools currently offer these programs.

For over 100 years, West Tennessee Business College has been providing quality education to students seeking relevant career training. Our programs are designed to provide you with the skills necessary to meet the demands of today’s fast-paced, competitive job market. West Tennessee Business College’s faculty consists of professionals with extensive experience in each specialized field – our instructors practice what they teach.

A supportive classroom environment allows for personalized instruction and individual attention. Classrooms house up-to-date equipment, creating a realistic work environment for practical hands-on training. Our curriculum is career-oriented and is enhanced by externships designed to prepare you for work in your chosen field. Our objective is to offer you the training necessary to realize your career goals.
