West Virginia Northern Community College's mission is to provide postsecondary educational opportunity for all citizens in the Northern Panhandle's six counties, to develop a competent district workforce which can compete in a global economy, and to respond to cultural and civic interests and needs of the communities it serves.

West Virginia Northern Community College is a public, multi-campus, comprehensive community college serving six West Virginia counties. West Virginia Northern is located in Wheeling along the Ohio River in the northern panhandle region of West Virginia. The college is approximately 60 miles (96 kilometers) from the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The state of West Virginia is well known for its many outdoor recreational opportunities, including skiing and white-water rafting. The college is the largest higher education institution in the region, providing an affordable, quality educational experience. Faculty and staff are committed to ensuring student success by recognizing the individual needs of each student and mentoring students toward their goals.

As a comprehensive community college, Northern offers a wide variety of programs and courses in the arts and sciences, career-technical education, developmental studies and community service. Under an open-door enrollment policy, the College admits all adults desiring postsecondary education. High school students recommended by their schools for early entrance are also admitted. Graduates receive Associate in Arts degrees, Associate in Science degrees, Associate in Applied Science degrees and Certificates.

The college sponsors a number of cultural and educational organizations and conducts social activities to provide enrichment experiences for students. Cultural and recreational activities abound in the surrounding area.

West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC, or simply "Northern") is a public, multi-campus community college with the main campus located in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia. The main campus is housed in the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Terminal at Wheeling. Established in 1972, WVNCC delivers a comprehensive, two-year degree program for all six counties in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle. In addition to the main campus, WVNCC has branches in Weirton, WV and New Martinsville, WV. The college is known throughout the Ohio Valley to have very reasonable tuition while still maintaining a high quality of education. {| border="1" cellpadding="2"
