Based on the Catholic Jesuit ideal of Cura Personalis, or nurturance of the whole human being, University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania, offers an education that is engaging both intellectually and in other ways. As a way of cultivating students’ leadership and service skills, Scranton has a leadership development program, which includes workshops and work assignments relating to compassionate service to others. Like everything else at Scranton, admissions applications take the whole person into account. Materials used to evaluate students include SAT or ACTS scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, a list of extracurricular activities and a personal statement.
