The campuses of Indiana University are currently involved in a comprehensive review of their respective missions. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education retains authority to review and approve such missions. The following paragraphs are drawn from the last approved mission statements.
The mission of Indiana University at Kokomo is to meet the educational needs of north central Indiana through a broad spectrum of undergraduate programs leading to associate and baccalaureate degrees, a limited range of graduate offerings, and a wide variety of continuing education activities. As a part of Indiana University, the institution is committed to the attainment of excellence in all of its endeavors.
Indiana University Kokomo is a regional campus in the Indiana University system located in Kokomo, Indiana.
As of 2006, there were about 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students at IU Kokomo and more than 100 full-time faculty. The university serves an 11-county region in North Central Indiana, and offers more than 40 Indiana University degrees including bachelor's degrees in many arts and sciences disciplines, informatics, medical imaging technology, criminal justice, nursing, business, education, and general studies; and master's degrees in business, nursing, and liberal studies, and a limited number of associate degree programs.
IU Kokomo has a low student-faculty ratio and the lowest tuition of any 4-year public institution in the state of Indiana, as well as state-of-the-art science and technology facilities.

Indiana University Kokomo was formed when Indiana University acquired during 1945 the former Kokomo Junior College. Kokomo Junior College was formed in 1932 by John and George Beauchamp.
