Ohio University-Chillicothe Campus From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Ohio University-Chillicothe (OU-C) is a regional campus of Ohio University located in Chillicothe, the first state capital of Ohio. The main campus of Ohio University is located in Athens, Ohio. More than 8,000 students attend Ohio University's five regional campuses. The other campuses include OU-Eastern (St. Clairsville), OU-Zanesville, OU-Lancaster, and OU-Southern (Ironton).

Situated about 45 miles south of the current state capital of Columbus in the Appalachian foothills, OU-C is a non-residential campus with an enrollment of over 1,900 students. Primarily a two-year school that feeds the main campus of Ohio University, OU-C offers thirteen associate degrees in fields such as nursing, law enforcement, computer science and business management. The campus also offers eight four-year bachelor's degrees in fields such as criminal justice, education, and communications, and three master's degrees in engineering, business administration, and social sciences. There are over thirty full-time faculty members and more than seventy adjunct faculty.

The oldest of the five regional campuses of Ohio University, OU-C opened as a regional campus in September 1946 to help eliminate post-World War II overcrowding on the university's main campus. The school began with 281 students, 70% of which were armed services veterans. The university received guidance from the Chillicothe community first through a citizens advisory committee, changed later to a board of trustees. The current regional coordinating council was adopted in 1972.

Beginning with night courses at Chillicothe High School, OU-C started daytime classes in September 1960 at Chillicothe's First Presbyterian Church. The school moved to its current location on University Hill on the western side of the city in September 1966.
