Hello,
I just got accepted to UW this year. The acceptance rate is indeed around 68% / 2 out of 3 applicants but for this year, as I've heard, the acceptance rate has gone down to 62% because they have slightly changed the admission process.
Now they focus more on the essay/writing portion of your application rather than your SAT scores, GPA, etc. Although what classes you took is still important to them (any AP, IB?) But what they're more interested in now is who you are instead of whether you got a 4.0GPA or not. So make sure you check out their essay questions online and start preparing for them if you're going to apply next year.

Question:
EDucation in Seattle?
I am international high school student and still confused which university should I go. Which university do you choose ? University of Washington or Seattle University ? and why ? Is it hard to go to UW and SU? Which one that harder ? UW or SU?

Seattle U provides a far superior education for undergraduates than UW - you are in classrooms with actual professors and you have to actually demonstrate knowledge at SU compared to huge lecture halls and scan-tron forms at UW.
If you are an international student, I would strongly encourage looking at Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma - a phenomenally strong international student population and a community that will really support you. www.plu.edu

I'm not so concerned with facts I can find on Wikipedia. Rather, I'm interested in intangible differences: what their cities are like, which schools are nationally renown (Agriculture, Business, Computer Science, etc.), which university is most prestigious in the eyes of Washingtonians (Is that right?), and any other relevant information.
Thank you.

My guess is that University of Washington is more prestigious, as it is one of the schools written up in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2006 edition... and Washington State University is not.
U of W is given 4 1/2 stars (out of 5) for academics in this extremely helpful Guide, and 3 stars for both social and quality of life. It's got a "BEST BUY" stamp. They seem to like the campus a lot. It says U of W's strongest programs are Businesss, English, Psychology, Drama, Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture and Nursing. About 71% of applicants are accepted, so it isn't an exclusive school. The Guide says schools with which U of W "overlaps" include: Washington State, Western Washington, UC-Berkeley, U of Oregon, Puget Sound.
You can find this guide at your school library or local public library, or buy it for about $15 from amazon.com.

I am a high school senior who needs to decide which University I should go by May 1. Right now I concern: UW Washington-Seattle or UW Wisconsin-Madison. Both of them are huge public Universities. The main thing I am looking for are: academic, study abroad program, how international student and domestic student get along/ does different ethic groups always form their own niche? things to do with the enviroment setting, Internship opportunity, how qualify of its undergraduate diploma and, of course, people. I apply as undeclared major-arts and science department to both schools. But I am looking for majors like International business/ Economic/ international study (relation)/ communication (journalism/ media arts/ film). I am very confused right now so please give me common about both two schools and suggestions.

I'm currently attending the University of Washington-Seattle and I love it. I don't know anything about UW Madison or how they compare, but I can give you some information on UW Seattle. You can do some research on usnews.com on ranks, but I just quickly checked out the website and UW Madison is ranked 34 and UW is ranked 42. There are some great opportunities here at UW. The business program here is pretty competitive and from what I hear, most of the business school advisers strongly encourage you to have a back-up. My sister just recently graduated with a B.A. in Business marketing and finance with a gpa of about a 3.6. Very good for the business school. She just got a great job in CA and will be moving there shortly. As for me, I'm actually planning on majoring in Speech Communications, not journalism. The communications professors here are awesome. I've heard pretty much nothing but good things about them. There are definitely chances to study abroad--but then again there are at pretty much any university. What I do know about journalism: common sense tells me that there are great opportunities here because of all the local news stations like King 5, Komo 4, etc. etc. and also because of the Seattle Times. Anywho, this is a pretty broad question. You're welcome to e-mail me with additional questions about UW if you have any. jessica_wng@yahoo.com

I like all 3 of the schools. TWU, is in Canada so I wonder if it will be a good choice for me even though I am from the states. Canadian advice is welcome as well....or anyones advice. UW is close to home but it is a large school. I plan on going into nursing, and they have one of the best in the nation. But TWU and Carroll are small schools, and they are religious. I am a christian and would like to have some form of support, and going to an affliated school would be nice. Do any of you have expriences with this? Is there any groups at the University of Washington? I came from a small high school, and moved to the city, I perferr small but large has its up-sides. Financially, I think any of them would be managable with a loan.

You have chosen a very tough college to go to if you choose the U of W. If you could get in, I would go there. I attend the UW school of business. It is not rated the best business college in the nation like the nursing program is, so I can imagine how difficult it would be to get into that program, the univeristy itself is beautiful.
We all want the biggest bang for our buck. Come see the university...if you spend money for education...spend it on the best! Become a Husky...if you can.
Good luck!
There are many groups to join at the UW. People are very friendly. Once you start attending classes here, the campus becomes smaller becuase you tend to only go to the buildings where the nursing program is located. In fact I have never been to that part of the campus.

I did not attend the University of Washington, but lets talk about Seattle. If you like the sun, this place is not for you. I recently spent 3 months in Seattle and it was the most miserable experience of my life, because it rained the ENTIRE time (no exaggeration). oh ya. the traffic is so bad you want to go home and kick the dog, and I'm from New York.

The University of Washington's Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department is ranked 7th in the United States. Microsoft and Intel hire more graduates from the University of Washington than from any other university.
The University has a brand new $72 million CSE building that opened in 2003. Also, the CSE students get small classes and the opportunity to participate in research projects.
Personally, I will begin attending the UW this fall as a pre-science student.

I would recommend going to visit U of Washington and meeting with an admissions counselor. They can review your transcript thus far and make any recommendations.
When you transfer to public school I would recommend excelling in your academics, as well as getting involved in an activity.
Good luck!

I have narrowed down my admissions to these three and I can't decide on which one. I am going to major in psychology. I currently live in Michigan and really want to get out of here but U of M is one of the best colleges in the country. Should I pass this oppurtunity. I am really leaning towards University of Washington because Seattle would be an absolutely great experience and they are also a great university. What do you think, and please give reasons (weather, experience,etc.).

I gotta go with the U of Wash, too. I'm thinking about applying to a grad program out there myself. Seattle's the most educated city in the U.S., you know.
On the other hand, I was born and raised in Wisconsin and still loved going to the UW in Madison. The reason for that, however, may be because it's absolutely nothing like the rest of the state.

They're essentially identical in reputation. U Dub is bigger and has a top athletic program. You might have more fun there. Academically, for undergrad pre-med, they're the same. So, with that equal, I look to see where you'll enjoy yourself more. I suspect that may be U Dub.

Question:
Which college should I go to?
I've ben accepted into Grand Valley University, Michigan State, University of Michigan, Purdue, University of Washington-Seattle, and Syracuse. I still haven't heard from NYU ( I sent in my applicaton in late January) and I would go there if accepted. But out of the six, where should I go? Please give reasons.
Sorry I didn't give you details on me. I am going to study psychology. I live in Michigan and I'm not a big fan of the weather.
